Does playing hard to get sometimes backfire?

A guy asked me out for lunch and I gently brushed it off. He continued to flirt afterward so I didn't think he took it too personally. I like him, it was just bad timing for me. I didn't see him for a few weeks and when I ran into him yesterday he acted like he didn't even see me. But he obviously did. I'm disappointed because I was hoping to get to know him better. I thought guys like it when girls play hard to get.

Yes, if you do it for too long. For example, A guy I'm seeing has been playing hard to get, and yet he remains just barely out of reach for me. What does this mean? I ask him about it directly and he just keeps hedging (playing hard to get) until finally I put my foot down and call it quits.

Don't tolerate it at all, and don't expect others to tolerate it either. While it's good to be conservative as opposed to easy, it's not good to remain too aloof from anyone for an extended period of time either as they'll simply move on to a more amicable person.

I wouldn't call it playing hard to get, you weren't playing a game with him. You said yourself it wasn't the right timing. So you're going to have to ask him yourself, because chances are he feels rejected.

I think so, sometimes girls might take it too far then the guy loses interest. I like things to be real.
