Do guys gaze at girls they like in a "trance"?

I saw this guy I like after quite a while and we just had this really long eye contact. It felt like forever. It must have been at least 5 seconds, I feel like it was more though.

He just kind of looked at me with a really soft but blank expression.

I was under the impression he was in a trance like state. He just stood and looked at me like that. I'm positive he knew he was looking at me, because he changed his expression after he recognized me.

He has never looked at me like that before, he usually just looks away really quickly when I see him and avoids eye contact in conversation. I don't think he is repulsed by me because I do catch him looking at me a lot.

Is this trance like state common with guys who like a girl? I genuinely can't think of any other reason why he would look at me that way.
