Should I be worried that he never says my name?

Question

Been dating a man for 2.5 months now.. we aren't boyfriend/girlfriend but we are pretty serious.. we want the same things.. When met from an online dating site. We talked for about a month (text, emails, phone convos). and then met in person. From day one he has never called me by my name (except for when he introduced me to his family).. he always gives me nicknames.. Babe, golidlocks, sweetheart, baby, etc etc etc...

Lately we have been having problems because he wants to talk to me daily but I see him 2 times a month. He's says he always has things to do.. I want to believe him but since day one I thought it was weird that he has NEVER said my name out loud..

Someone once told me not to trust a man who does that.. what do you think?

I agree with a majority of the answers here.. ... why do you think he would introduce me to his family but then only see me every so often?

I told him today that I didn't like how little I see him and he said that he wasn't willing to jump into anything so quickly... I am not trying to do that.. I just want to see him more if he wants to continue to talk..

Relax, sweetie, "Dr.P" to your rescue. I have a similar "same name" problem, but actually, to Me, it isn't really a Big deal, because whenever he says my name, it means He is either Mad at me, or it's his"serious tone" that just tells me, he needs to get my attention about something even bigger.

I have a husband out in Egypt that constantly calls me "baby," no matter how many times we have been together, or just have been online. It turns me on, and I forget 'who I am." He gives me other loving names, as well, and I enjoy those Threefold. This has been going on for three years now. For me, being we are in a long distance relationship, I feel safe and secure whenever the opportunity is is whispered in my ear.

However, I find that whenever he drops the pet names, and throws me pouty "pet peeves," my way, by calling Me by My Own name, he really is getting down to brass tacks, and it's just his way and his----"call of the wild," which is telling me I had better Sit down and behave.

Take it easy, it's nothing that you feel you have to feel he is "untrustworthy" over, or make your hair stand up on end about. Some guys just feel "cozy" in a relationship about someone special, whom they have had in their life for over---two months, let's say.

The way I see it is, if they go to all this bother to call out anything sweet and sincere, and it Isn't your name, it's okay in my book of Etiquette, as long as he isn't calling me----dirty rotten names.xx

I don't know what it is, but I have this weird thing about calling people by their names or saying their names in sentences when talking to them. I can't say this is what your guy is doing (and the second paragraph is a completely different issue that raises more questions that I think are more to worry about), but... for me it's just a weird thing about me. It's unnerving when people say my name when they're already talking to me- different if they're shouting at me from across the room to get my attention, I guess. I also almost always end up with nicknames for people I'm close to (not just bfs)... not on purpose, it just happens.

So, I don't think it's a "sign" of anything unless you could test it (NOT recommended!) by almost getting hit by a bus and see if he'll say your name to get your attention? Lol. He might also think that pet names are cute and closer, who knows.

I'd worry much more about the distance issues you guys are having rarely seeing each other.

to me it sort of sounds like someone who may be dating other people. he doesn't use your name because he uses generic pet names for the various people he may be seeing as a way to avoid calling someone by the wrong name. this feeling is furthered by the fact that he only sees you two times a month. if he was really into you after 2.5 months of "dating" you two should be hanging out once a week. I mean at this rate I guess in a year or so you'll be seeing each other once a week or so...

the fact that he introduced you to his family is a weird sort of albatross because it is inconsistent with his behavior of sort of being at arms length.

nonetheless I think I would be very weary of this relationship.

It would be concerning to me.  You say you both want the same things, but what is that exactly?  If he just uses nicknames and never uses your real name, that could be a problem.

2 times a month isn't enough for things just to get started. Have you ever thought that by just seeing him that much he doesn't feel like he should be calling you your name yet? If it worries you that much maybe just ask him why he doesn't call you your name? It could be everything from culture norms to if he feels comfortable too.

Why don't you kust be straightup with him and ask him instead of wondering yea I understand you may not want to but if you wanna be with someone you should always make it clear instead of having them play mind games with you. How often do you use his name? The more a person is consistent in doing something for you, the more likely you will naturally do it back. If you want him to say your name, you need to say his name more. It may take time but eventually, it will just come naturally.

By the way, never believe those silly superstitions. Everyone's situation is different.

I am weird. I have dated guys and I don't like their name but I like them so I use nicknames. It could be something like that. My boyfriend calls me babe most of the time and vise versa it is just more endearing to me. He knows my name and uses it if I ignore him... hint hint...

My fiance' never calls me by my name unless he is introducing me to someone.  It's always baby, babe, beautiful, honey or if he's talking to a friend on the phone it's my girl, the wife, etc.  I guess it never bothered me much.  I wouldn't take this as a good or bad indication, ignore it.  Unless it really bothers you, tell him you'd like him to say your name more.  I'd pay more attention to how he treats you besides that, how he treats you will help you out with figuring his intentions.

The name calling isn't your issue my dear.   The infrequency you see each other is keeping you from getting close.  Ask yourself what you want the end result to be.  Is it marriage? Is it just casual dating?  Regardless the pet names he calls you, he thinks he's being charming.  He introduced you to his family so that's typically an indication he wants this to go somewhere.  Do you?

Maybe he doesn't actually know what your name is and it's too late to say so now because that's just weird.
I once dated a woman for about 7 or 8 months and never knew her actual name. I had to move away and we drifted apart.
