Prohibition worked so well...
Banning it wouldn't work so they tax it to hell and hope to discourage more people taking it up. Banning it from public places made it much less social and had a good effect.
you failed to mention how prohibition led to the deaths of several thousand people in the US who died from "food poisoning" when it was actually the government spiking the liquor with poison and forced the hospitals to declare it otherwise, when the people found out that the liquor was spiked they had riots everywhere.

Same reason guns dont dissapear from USA. Once history has written itself its proved to be quite difficult to take away our 'toys' and 'pleasures' without resistance
Besides we are not trying to eliminate all indulgences regardless if they are bad or not. Some are here to stay and there is nothing wrong with it
It would be hard to deny a soldier a smoke while he stands guard
I don't know. I wish it was. In Canada, they have tried to make it a little more difficult too purchase them. Though what they should have done is raise the age limit to legally buy them.
I am against smoking, I find it a totally disgusting habit but then, that is me, need not be everyone else. Much as I am against smoking, I am also against the ban because a ban only helps increase the illegal market for it; it can only be done through a conscious change in attitude across people.
However, I do agree with a total ban on smoking in public places, people shouldn't be made victims of public smoking.
Religion has killed more people than any vice currently out there. So why hasn't that been banned?
lol i agree, i can't wait for the day religions are banned in schools so they don't have to shove that bs into people who couldn't give a flying f*** about it.
You mean Islam, right?
On that note, Atheism has killed more - here and hereafter - than even Islam has. As brutal as Saladin was, he was no Stalin.
@ObscuredBeyond should i point out the great crusades? or the fall of the persian empire? or the mass murder of the first illuminati? the vatican church is responsible for more deaths and wars in the last 2000 years than any other religion to date.
@renogaza : The Crusades were limited to a very tiny map area, and were initially a defensive response to 400 years of rape, pillaging, and mass murder on the part of Muslims - which is happening again in Europe due to Merkelitler and the other Multiculturalists (read: Anti-Whites.)
Moreover, the RCC did NOT authorize a lot of those slaughters. And you forget why the Protestant Reformation happened to begin with: to oppose papal complacency with anti-Biblical stances being taken by European kings to enforce state policies that were immoral / heretical.
European kings didn't fight for God. They paid lip service to make the RCC look the other way, and then fought for gold.
Money, resources, greed. THAT kills. Only atheist ideology has killed hundreds of millions more than simple greed.
@ObscuredBeyond Hitler was a Christian and tried to wipe out not only Jews but Catholics
@FallOutBoy2001: That's an age-old lie. Hitler said Christianity was "unnatural," and wanted to replace it with German Neo-Paganism. He only pretended - just like Obama early on - to hold the title - in order to win over support from the Calvinists that he needed money and resources from. The CLC, however, saw through the ruse. Just as the CLC in America today sees through the ruse Obama is pulling.
@ObscuredBeyond well even better then. He wanted to replace it with another religion.
People are allowed to do things that are unhealthy. They are allowed to smoke. They are allowed to be fat. They are allowed to not exercise.
You keep saying 'but they shouldn't be able to harm others'. Well that's why public smoking bans keep coming in. But as to why it hasn't been banned -everywhere- because people can still choose to smoke in private and harm themselves if they want.
I wish it was illegal yuck. I've noticed that people who smoke stink, especially in the winter when smokers come in from smoking outside they completely reek and the stench is so bad when it's a group of people I literally get nauseous
Because what you put in to your own body, should be your own choice.
Whether that's food, weed, water, nicotine, or whatever.
Right but when you're choices are affecting other's whose choice it is not to smoke, then it isn't just about you. Same goes for the person who decides to drive drunk or high.
Just because some asshole decides to break the law and drive while under the influence, doesn't justify restricting what I can put in my body, anymore than it would make sense to ban cars.
Drunk driving and driving while high ARE ILLEGAL.
CAN YOU NOT READ?
It's right there in my first sentence. "Just because some asshole decides to break the law"
BREAK THE LAW.
Before you start ALL CAPSING your outrage at something, LEARN TO READ.
I used to smoke long time. Last few years I'm smoking e-cigarettes. I know it's not healthy. But at least it's not stinky, and I don't bother people around me with smoking, because what's come out it's just steam. And it's much cheaper of course.
Banned? No I think people should be allowed to put whatever they want into their bodies. It's their choice. Smoking in public should be banned because it can give off second hand smoking cancer.
If people want to smoke it should be their choice. Same with alcohol, weed, mdma, coca cola, cheese, heroin, whatever (as long as it's not harming others of course). If I eat too much cheese and get ill that's my own problem, you can't just go banning cheese in case people eat too much and get sick.
People like you make me sick and embarrassed for humankind, you want to ban freedom. People like you make me want to start smoking just to piss them off
Because the tax and revenue from this shit is enormous. And seing the cigarette companies are powerful enough to influence governments them it never will.
I've always wondered why smoking, chewing tobacco, alcohol, and things like that are legal when their are things that don't harm us nearly as much but they're still outlawed or banned places.
i sincerely wish they'd ban indoor smoking in tokyo
I agree, great Take, smoking is one of the worst habits.
Because some people smoke a few cigarettes (such as myself) and there's no problem with that.
it's not good for your health at any age, but 17, eesh. You still have time to turn it around and quit
Hopefully I can quit I tried but I just love the smoke. I'm trying though.
I'm glad to see you're at least trying to quit and I really hope that you succeed in this because you're health is so important. Don't give up on it :o)
Because the government would be missing taxes. Since I was young the prices of cigarretes went 400% up only because of higher taxes. I still wonder who can still afford smoking and when they continue increasing the taxes on smoking.
My grandfather smoked cigarettes for 30 years. He is 86 years old, he is still alive. Smoking cigarettes for 30 years did not kill him. Smoking cigarretes does not mean you will be cancer. It only increases the risk of being cancer, that is all.
^ this.
so cool, go eat a ton of hamburgers, and do some drugs, and drink and drive because they "might not" kill you. Someone always likes to point out the one or two examples and say look, so and so lived to be 104 smoking and drinking... yet how many people are in hospitals, in rehabs, and/or dead for doing the same.
What about weed smoking? it's annoying as hell to have to see let alone walk thru! Cigs give small puffs.
Because if I want to kill myself slowly I have the right to do so. We are still free.
Yeah but you domt have to cancer other people to death with your smoke, or are you one of those vaper losers?
@anonman32 I don't smoke near people who aren't smokers or don't want to be near it.
Ok good.
