What I do to lose weight: Eat a lot more fruits and veggies. (You should be consuming more of these than anything else). Drink lots and lots of water. Stay away from any pasta, breads, potatoes, etc. Exercise! Diet is the most important step for losing weight, throwing in exercise can speed it up. I enjoy running on my treadmill and eliptical for an hour, then riding my bike for 30minutes-1hour, depending on how i'm feeling. So far i've shed a lot of weight. Good luck with your diet! Remember to always fight temptations, but don't fight them all the time. It's okay to have cheat days once a week or so where you can have what you want, while also making smart portion controls; such as don't go out having 4 huge plates of pasta that day. Stick to it and you'll see results! :D

40 lbs in a few months shit that's a lot. its not gonna be healthy to lose that much weight in that short amount of time, im assuming few is like 3 months, but anyways healthy diet is key! keep on that healthy diet daily and throw in some exercise daily as well. if you combine weight lifting and cardo with HIIT mixed in there then you will lose weight phenomenally and the healthy way too. try to remain stress free. stick to all natural organic food products if you can. and just be active as much as you can throughout your entire day, don't ever just be moping around at home. go for a walk and listen to music or do something. try to be as active as you can be.
If you need to lose so much weight, you really need help from a dietist. It's too delicate otherwise, if you lose weight too quickly and your body does not have the time to adapt, you'll run into trouble and really become sick.
I can tell you, with my eyes closed, that movement is gonne be an important part of it. Limit the intake of fat and candy to a minimum and move... in the beginning some modest walking, while you lose weight gradually a bit more sports.
But don't do it on your own... risk is really too large!

One major thing I've learned is don' bother keeping inspecting yourself to see if you have lost fat, just have faith that your body will take care of loosing it and looking good itself. Secondly because I do a lot of sports (though sometimes in the past i have let myself go) when I do look at my body and get depressed about clumps of fat I think to myself --> look there's some more fat that can be lost! -As though I am throwing weight out of a hot air balloon to stop it crash landing, all weight found or noticed is positive because it means I can get faster and more agile when i loose it
Keep protein and fibrous vegetables up.
Target carbs (primarily slow burning ones) based on energy needs.
Keep a good size calorie deficit that lets you fit in a cheat meal or two a week.
Every 4-6 weeks eat at maintenance for a couple weeks to let your hormones stabilize.Counting calories. I've lost 15kgs by doing that in six months.
Eat less, move around more.
