Tips that have worked to loose weight?

I want to loose some weight, I've tried a lot of different diets and am trying to just put together a diet that I can follow and am looking for some tips that have helped others. In the next few months id like to loose about 40 pounds but total would like to loose about 120 which I know will take a lot of work but in ready to take on the challenge.
