Question to alcoholics/anyone who knows about alcoholism?

dont feel like explaining everything but long story short is my female best friend is an alcoholic but is now recovering and getting help. she knows she shouldn't be in a relationship so i confronted her on why she still uses the dating site she goes on. she said because "im an alcoholic and need to talk to people"

is that what alcoholics do? try and make a lot of friends while recovering? even though most of these new friends are non alcoholics

im also a bit confused because she's been talking to me less lately, why doesn't she talk to me more instead of reaching out and finding new people? is that something to worry about too?

I wouldn't say she is cheating but maybe she is going on there to get an ego boost or convince herself she is attractive or maybe she is hoping somebody better will come along. It's hard to say but I highly doubt she is using it to meet other alcoholics. They have alcoholics anonymous for that and when you are trying to quit a habit - you go to people who practice a healthy lifestyle - not to other alcoholics. definitely a lie.

My dads been in AA since I've been alive. During treatment it's important for her to reach out to friends and make new ones. However, it's important that those people are just as dedicated if not more so to her sobriety as she is during this difficult time. Recovery sucks and if she's only hanging out with bar hoppers then she's going to relapse hard and fast.

i see. is that what they suggest at AA meetings? to go out and make new friends?

i feel like she doesn't talk to me as much because she has new people she's talking to... I don't know how to bring this up to her but i feel like me and her are drifting apart

They don't suggest finding new friends, they just say to find a support system that wants you to stay sober. Don't blame her or her new friends when you bring up feeling like you've drifted apart. Just say that you feel like you're drifting apart and that you just want her to know that you are there to help and support her however she needs it, let her lead the conversation after that.
