Guys; if you had to go in the hospital for a medical procedure like a hernia, would you mind if a female shaved your private area?

I was a candy striper at a hospital in SF where they specialized in hernias mostly guys, but females were admitted because they get hernias too, which I didn't know at that time. Female patients all got private and semi private rooms. The guys all got like dorms with almost no privacy.
In the morning the nurses and PAs all descended on the rooms and shaved everyone for pre-op. There were a few male nurses, but maybe 1%. At 14 Yo I was allowed to walk in and out of the guys dorms and see EVERYTHING.
I'm just wondering how you would feel under those vulnerable circumstances?

I would want to be shaved only by the same gender.

I wouldn't care if it was a male or female.

I would prefer same gender, but wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

Your description of the rooms seems all wrong. Male or female, the accommodations should be the same. And the beds should have privacy curtains around them so that somebody (like a 14 year old kid) walking in would not invade that person's privacy. And the hospital should have ensured that someone that young was not allowed into a situation like that. I have a world of respect for candy stripers (boy, spell check wants me to change that to candy strippers), and all hospital volunteers. But no one should be allowed to invade a person's privacy unless it was necessary for the job they are doing. Doctors, nurses, even medical assistants doing their job would not bother me.

I have had physicals performed by female physicians who would bring in another female, often the medical assistant, to "chaperone" us while the doctor performed the most intimate exam. Seems a bit strange to have that arrangement. Male doctors examining females often had a female in the room to chaperone, but any doctor having the same sex come int to chaperone for an opposite sex patient seems strange. I had one female doctor ask if I wanted someone else in the room (no) and my most recent female doctor does not even ask and does not have anyone else present (which I am perfectly fine with).

Yeah it was the weirdest. Even families and some non medical personnel came strolling in and out of the mens ward, getting them to sign papers, etc.
They would never get away with that with women. Guys get no respect there, that's for sure.
+ I thought hernias were mostly for older men. Wrong! Even guys 15,16 Yo were in there.
I will say the guys seemed to take it all in stride though. Most covered up with their hands if someone was coming through. LOL!

The way that hospital is run it should not be allowed. I certainly would not use that facility. I am surprised anyone does.

Clarifying hernia - most hernia (75%) are in the abdominal wall; tissue or organs push through a a localized hole caused by weakness (not a tear) in the abdominal wall. This can happen to men or women, but since it is usually caused by improper heavy lifting, blows to the abdomen, etc., it usually happens to men. And when in a man it can push down into the scrotum. Even if it does not get that far, one can often be felt by feeling up through the scrotum, hence the "turn your head and cough" routine for guys.

When I went into hospital for my vasectomy my surgeon was female and both the nurse were female. They were so material fact they had done hundreds. I have to say it was a little demeaning to have your penis flopped about as they cut into your scrotum to get to your tubes at the point where they cut and tie them a nurse comes and holds your hand. At the time it didn't cross my mind but one lady nurse holding your hand a nothervholding your penis back and a female surgeon cutting into my ball bag. They did a good job all went well.

Yeah I think the whole thing is pretty clinical, and not sexual at all. A girl at the nursing program a school said she never saw a guy get hard when handled. They were probably scared. I would be if I was a guy.

It wouldn't matter to me either way. The person doing that, male or female, are doing their job. It's not like they don't know what everything looks like anyway. They've seen it. When I was 14 I had a hernia repair surgery at a Catholic hospital where lots of the nurses were nuns. The first time I got the surgical dressing changed it was a nun who did it and I got a massive (for 14 years old) boner. I was embarrassed but it was out of my control. She took the bed sheet and used the sheet to hold the boner down and forward, tucking the sheet in underneath me. That's NOT the direction a boner wants to go! I don't think she understood that, but that was her way of getting it out of the way of what she was doing.

I'd prefer a female because a guy shaving me down there would make me uncomfortable. When I was a teen all but one time my physical (for sports) was a female. When a female did my physical I was as comfortable as can be. When a male did my physical I felt really weird... I'm sure now it may be a bit different but if I had a preference I would prefer a female. As for the dorm. I would want a private room where a candy striper couldn't walk in and see me. If female patients got private or semi-private then I would want the same. Equality and all.

Nope not at all, of course I'm older and understand that my penis is no different than anyone else's and everyone has seen one. So having a female shave my butt for a hernia wouldn't be an issue. But I can see a younger male feeling weird or insecure about it.

in any room where the male is exposed inappropriate
i know cause my cousin is male nurse at the Monongahela
Valley Hospital PA.. Now candy striper is allowed in the room
where the male is dressed decent our hospital is highly
insured.. Now there may be cases where shit happens
but they get caught someone is in hot water

Well you better call that hernia clinic in SF and let them know. it's the largest one in the country that specializes in that type of surgery.
From what I know no two hospitals have exactly the same rules. Some don't even have candy stripers my mom says.
I'm not interning for 2 or 3 more years so I'll try to keep you posted.

I didn't see anyone that young there. My mom said you can actually be born with a hernia, and not all of them need surgery. I'm not too sure what exactly the difference is between male and female hernias. It must have something to do with guys testicles cuz they were shaving them totally bald, and using these cheap looking white razors from the Dollar Store, and no shaving crème. I couldn't believe that. It must have scratched or something. IDK!
