Tips for fighting off unhealthy food cravings?

Currently I'm a pescatarian, but I'd love to go back vegetarian. I'm just scared to because last time I was vegetarian I got pretty hefty by making poor food choices, i. e., lots of cheese and breads and pasta (with more cheese and bread on the side). I need some good tips on how to fight the temptation! Because apparently I have no self control and should not be allowed to make my own food choices.

I'm looking to shed some extra fat and tone up, and avoid gaining back all the weight I'd put on previously so this is very important to me. Also, I'd just like to feel healthier and be healthier and take good care of my body for once in my life.
