What is with druggies?

Tired of druggies, users, trippers, stoners, etc, etc... Who believe they are enlightened or more in touch with reality or the universe or how things really are...

It's so comical to me. They can never seem to bottle up what they experience on their trips and bring it back to the REAL world... They are never smarter, more together, capable, honest, caring, or loving than the next person.

How do they not see the negativity of their choices? Chasing the dragon is horrible.

Please don't compare Starbucks with drugs... thanks guys!

Very narrow analysis, sure there are people that share too much too often and need to moderate their use, but using psychedelics is one of the greatest decisions I have ever made in my life. I was very anti-everything in high school as far as those things go, but once I opened up to those things I realized how ignorant I was being. Every activity in your life alters your conscious: having conversations with other people to share emotions and ideas, reading others ideas in books, listening to new music, etc etc. Using psilocybin exacerbated my feelings of existentialism, did I gain some sort of new knowledge? No, but it made me realize there are regions of my brain I hadn't previously explored and allowed me to go into deeper introspection about myself. By having that alternate perspective it made me realize not to be so ignorant to other's perspectives and PUSHED me to gain more knowledge to debate people and explore their ideas. Hell, there's research that's been done to show LSD can help people with alcohol addiction.

But if you smoke pot everyday, all day, are you going to make something of yourself? No, it's all about moderation. Psychedelics was a wake up call for me to take charge of my life and make a difference, but when you get the message, there comes a time to put down the phone.

I used to smoke a bit of the whacky backer back in my day , but that was a long time ago. Since I no longer do it I notice that people that do seem to annoy me in ways that they didn't when I did. I try not to judge others for their choices , but I don't have to condon their behavior either.

I smoked at one point in my life for about 6 months and that was it for me. I like to stay sober minded as commanded... Although, my girlfriend loves to smoke.. I try not to judge her but I really isn't improving anything in her life if you ask me. She seems like she is phasing out though.

I can honestly say I feel more in control of me now that I am off that junk. I think more clearly and trust my own judgement more about my decisions.
I hope she gets off that stuff , it will help you both in the long run. By your not judging her I personally feel it helping her to lay it aside

I've seen first hand how deluded some druggies can be... my one ex was one of them. It was a sad thing to see someone get ruined by drugs. He always thought he was so smart, so cool and knew everything -.- but at the end you get people like that who don't do drugs either. People can do what they want but I'm never giving a chance to someone who has a drug problem again. I wouldn't say I can't stand them but I don't agree with their lifestyle choices majority of the time.

Well he dumped me the second I told him about the drugs being a problem... it hurt a lot. Was the worst break up of my life. I still cry over it sometimes cause I tried helping him. He dumped me simply when I asked him to cut down on not getting high when I would be around cause it affected how he was around me. I couldn't believe he'd choose drugs over me and it hurt me so bad that he forget everything about me in a heartbeat simply for me asking him to cut down. I never even asked him to change. I just asked him to not do it around me but apparently I shouldn't have ever said that. Shows you how messed up it is... that someone can be so influenced by their drugs that they forget their loved one and will leave them behind forgetting everything they did and how much they cared :'/

They can help with physical and mental health problems. They can fuel creativity, take Steve Jobs for example. They can be used to help struggling marriages. They can open your mind up to new thoughts which creates new neural pathways and strengthens old ones. There are all kinds of possibilities.

Yeah I'm not sure I agree. Marriages has been ruined due to drug problems because there can be a ugly side to many drugs... certain drugs makes the person more violent and not to mention the addiction drugs can create. You're one of the few people who seem to think there's a good side to drugs which is shocking. There are awful stories out there about people who steal for money to buy drugs with, people who turn violent due to it and others who use drugs as getaway drugs to go onto harder stuff. I'm sorry but I've just encountered too many people who did drugs in the past and who said how bad it was for them and how damaging it can be. I've honestly yet to hear a person in my life rave about how amazing drugs are personally. Perhaps amazing in the moment when they are high but not so many amazing when they get addicted or start showing side effects.

As I said before, drugs (and anything else) can be good or bad. It's all in how you use it. People who have experienced the positive side of drugs are often afraid to talk about it due to the stigmatized view many people have of them. Nobody wants to hear about the good side. You guys are a good example of that.

I really doubt there's as much of a good side. Talk to any therapist or psychologist about drugs and they might give you a good perspective. The only reason we have a bad view of it is because to date we've had no reason personally to believe there's a good side. I mean, the guy I'm dating now also used to drugs (not just weed) and he isn't exactly thrilled about drugs. Neither are the people I know who did drugs so I'm basing my judgement on the experiences I've seen people have directly. If everyone keeps telling you how bad something is and they have direct experience with it, why on earth would you believe else wise?

Because I know from first-hand experience that that's not always the case. I've also done quite a bit of research on the subject because I have a profound interest in psychology and neuroscience and it's interesting to read about the studies conducted on many drugs which show how they can have a positive impact. And yes, there are psychologists who believe they can be good and have used them in therapy. But again, with the stigma attached to them, most are afraid to even touch the subject. Drugs like mdma and psychedelics are especially known for their positive potential. I think the bragging about drugs is more common in USA, since it's illegal there. In the Netherlands a lot of people use weed regularly so it's not really something to brag about. Everyone just knows you have a problem if you use it that much.

In the Netherlands, people don't act as tough about drugs as in the USA. They only do if they're minor and still got their hands on drugs. Same with alcohol.

I know a few people who are really happy with their lives. Have good jobs, and well off but smoke weed on the side.

At the same time, I know people down in the ruts making ends meat trying to survive. They're shooting paycheques into their arms.

Do I think they'd be loyal? I think it really depends on the person. If they can balance they habit as well as maintaining a life, yeah I think they'd be loyal. But if their drug habit is priority above everything else. It'd be subjective.

by the way, your brain develops and strengthens neural pathways with every thought you have and psychedelics have a way of bringing a tremendous influx of thoughts to your mind. Which means doing those drugs can strengthen your brain and that's something that's certainly bottled up and carried with you permanently.

I don't take drugs to deal with anything. I do a fantastic job dealing with things sober. That's the wrong reason to take drugs and that's when people get into trouble with them. I take them simply for enjoyment. It's a fun & interesting experience like no other. It has a very euphoric, socially bonding, & creative affect.
