Does it surprise you when you see a doctor who smokes cigarettes?

Out of my experience as a med student, it is pretty stressful being a doctor. Losing patients, getting called up in the middle in the night, seeing people suffer, have to hurry in emergencies... it is not fun. I smoked a lot more once I started doing internships. You are aware that smoking is bad and causes diseases, but you realize that in the end it doesn't really matter because there are so many other things that could give you diseases as well. And that everyone dies anyway. So you just keep on smoking. Not saying that life is depressing as a doctor, because you learn to separate work from home. However, when you are at work, then you become stressed.

Doctor, nurses, and other health care profession knows how bad smoking is and the complications you get growing older; still they do it to relieve stress, it's addicting, and because they can.

And who said they can't? No one :) I just find it weird because most of doctors I've meet don't smoke. So it's very rare for me to see a doctor who smokes.

They are people who have need. Just like other people know the health consequences of bad habits but continue doing them, doctors do the same.

As a future doctor, If a give someone advice on how to be healthy ill be taking my own advice also. So yea its weird to see a doctor smoke.
