Health care, Do we really need it?

I don't believe so at all. Its going to be very costly to both the financial troubles of the U.S. and to the peoples health.

People come over to the U.S. for medical treatment now and soon because they had to wait on the Socialistic health care system, time they didn't have.

Nobody has ever been turned down from medical treatment, I'm not sure about the past but in the present, now, nobody has ever been turned down.

I do believe this would be a waste of time and a huge mistake for both the U.S. economy and health care system.

First of all, it's important to understand that huge powers are at play here. Those FOR a national health insurance are of course the uninsured and those who feel private health insurance is too expensive. Those AGAINST a national health insurance are the American Medical Association and private health insurance companies (who have a negative financial interest). Government officials who have their insurance paid for them by taxpayer dollars, and the wealthy, are indifferent.

Secondly, it's important to make yourself immune to arguments that rely on logical fallacy and framing of facts (highlighting/misrepresenting the good and ignoring/misrepresenting the bad in my stance, while highlighting/misrepresenting the bad and ignoring/misrepresenting the good in the opposing stance; this is called "cherry picking") When you are immune to bias, you are able to be objective and consider the facts in a way so that your conclusion or opinion reflects not what you've been persuaded to support, but rather what is your best good faith opinion on what is best for society.

Third, if anyone truly wants to rid themselves of socialism, they should move to a country that lives in anarchy. Since, for as long as there is any form of collective cooporation by society for the benefit of society (government), you are by definition subjected to socialism. It doesn't matter if that socialism is Blue or Green, Democratic or Republican. Unless you tell the police and military to go back home, and bear the cost of defending yourself and family with an M1A2 tank and F22 Raptor; you will eventually have to admit that collective cooporation by society lowers the costs of the same benefits provided to individuals, to individuals. Such is the law of economies of scale. There is no logical reason for a group of individuals who can enjoy the same benefits at a lower cost to not go ahead and do so.

That is the proposed healthcare plan.

The most common attack thrown at it is:

"but you won't enjoy the same benefits, and you may not be able to see the same doctor, and may even be refused treatment!"

That is true, because of the word "may". Right now, that is true of private insurance as well. Not ALL treatments or drugs are covered, and if they are, they are not covered at 100% of their cost by the insurer. The attack is nothing more than a general statement about the nature of ALL health insurance in general.

What the national healthcare plan aims to accomplish is to rid your health coverage of "excess coverage" This will mean "catastrophic insurance coverage". If you need a major operation "in excess of $2,000"; you can rest safe.

The "waste" that costs americans serious money each year, is MINOR items that account for insurance fraud, scams, and doctors abuse over-billing insurance companies. The companies respond by increasing your premiums. YOU ultimately bear the "excess cost", until it is too high for you to afford; hence the term "crisis".

i always found it interesting that 90% of people against health care have it themselves. no offense but you're under 18, thank God you were born into a family who's situation afforded them the luxury of health care.

have you not heard the news stories of people dying in waiting rooms? I have had people close to me get substandard treatment from the doctor because they didn't have insurance, or it lapsed. make no mistake about it, the quality of treatment you get greatly depends on the amount of money you have. a lot of terminally ill people who have money are actually going to europe for treatment. US is one of the richest countries in the world but our healthcare doesn't even compare to france's, germany's, or italy's. I have an uncle in the uk and I don't think their health care system is as p*ss poor as ours lol I think a lot of us americans have this false sense of "oh our country is so perfect" when in reality, we could learn a lot from the systems of other countries.

i do agree that it would be a huge burden on the economy. I just don't know how we would resolve that. last year we had billions of dollars to bail out these fat cats on wall street (even though they conveniently found the funds to give their VPs million dollar bonuses even after the bail out!) so if that was the case, money could come from somewhere.

Disagree do you now that on average 22,000 people die preventative deaths because they were too poor for health care.I don't know what you are talking about people are refused all the time for proper medical care. If you don't have health insurance doctors won't do costly tests and you won't be treated for problems. Sure it would cost a lot ofmoney but it would save lives. The U.S went into a whole war that cost trillions of dollars over an event that cost 3,000 lives. And people die all the time from poor health care and we would be saving lives not taking them away like in a war. I don;t know why war isn;t seen as a waste of money but helpoing one another is. I can understand people not wanting the government to "control" health care but it isn't much better to have rich buerocrats that don't care about anyone else and are just greedy take care of our health. you will obviously be able to choose between the gov't option and private health insurance.

No one has been denied medical treatment, as long as they can pay for it. Yes, everyone who goes to the emergency room is treated by a doctor because it's in their ethical code. But people who have costly procedures that insurance won't cover often go without proper medical care due to cost.

People who live without health insurance don't receive preventative care, meaning that a lot of their medical problems grow as a result of not being attended to. As far as I'm concerned, a comprehensive health care plan is beneficial to our country as a whole. Everyone (regardless of race, age, legal status, etc) deserves proper medical treatment, not only in times of dire emergency but also in the form of regular check-ups and exams.
