New cells are created to replace old cells, and some of the new ones sometimes mutate. And as they multiply, so grows the mutated cells and there is your cancer. Plus there are cancers caused by other things, such as smoking, radiation, environmental toxins, etc. Each type is different. Breast cancer is very different from lung cancer, and they respond to treatments in different ways. So there is no one treatment for them.

Also, even cancers that are basically the same, such as myeloma, have different variations that are different mutations and therefore respond differently.

Some cancers have ways that may cure them. Taking myeloma again, killing off the stem cells in the bone marrow and replacing them will allow getting rid of bad stem cells to replace with good ones. The problem is that you can use the patient's own stem cells, or a donor's cells. Using your own will put some cancerous stem cells back in you. Using a donor's cells will cause the new blood system to have a new immune system that is trained to the donor's body, and it will see the patient's body as foreign and try to reject it. So the patient will have to be on anti-rejection drugs for life, and be susceptible to all the problems suffered by transplant patients. Often the patient will die shortly after the new stem cells are given.

The best hope, and one that is not yet found, is a way to train the immune system to go after the cancers in the body. That way only the cancerous cells will be attacked and not the good cells, and the immune system will find the cancerous cells anywhere they try to hide. So far we have not found a way to make that happen.

There are a few drugs being tested right now, but mostly on animals - they haven't reached human testing stages. I know one doctor who is working on a cure for HIV, and so far, the animals he has tested it on healed nicely with no major side effects (If I recall correctly, it worked by altering certain white blood cells).

Immunotherapy is a relatively new science, and its still coming of age. There certainly can be a simple drug that fixes cancer, but based on the different types and severities, I highly doubt they will be a one-a-day pill or anything like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if advances in immunotherapy wind up improving and becoming more effective to the point where that is the best case for curing it.

There are already cures for certain types of cancers such as colon cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer etc, if found early and treated at its early stages. So yes there is. Just like with almost any disease, the earlier you get rid of it, the easier it is to cure it. Not all cancers are the same. So it's not like "WOW Dr. ____ has found the cure to cancer!" Because it's not the same in all parts of the body, like bone cancer is not the same as a brain tumour, and the treatment is very different.

My boyfriend's sister has her doctorate in this stuff.

She says there's no "cure" for cancer. She says that cancer is the mutating of cells within the body. You can't cure that. You can treat it. You can make it so symptoms go away, but you can't make it so cells never mutate.

Cancer is where cells have already mutated. If you remove those cells, as in removing a tumor, and get all of it, you have removed the cancer, and are cured. Other cells may mutate in the future, but that does not mean that you still have cancer any more that the next person who has never had a cell mutate, but may in the future.

The point that my boyfriend's sister is making is that there's no way to ensure that cells won't mutate. That's the whole deal.

I have a relative in the family who worked as an oncologist (cancer doctor) for many years. If a cure for cancer had existed, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would have given it to his patients. The problem is that "cure for cancer" is misleading. That's because there are many different types of cancer cells that cause many different types of afflictions in people. Also, everyone has a different reaction to a particular treatment. So to answer the question, does a cure exist for every known type of cancer that would work on everybody? No.

There are treatments for cacner that have been either stalled or shot down by the FDA, and there are great potential treatments that have been impeded by ridiculous Federal law (such has been with the anti-cancer properties of cannabis). "Dallas Buyers Club", a critcically-acclaimed film, details how this process went with HIV and AIDS treatments in the 80s and 90s.

However, I don't think there is a cure for cancer per se that has been discovered. And, there will never be a one-size-fits-all cure. But, there will almost certainly be cures for different types, and those cures don't exist yet.

There will be one one day. Recently in Florida, scientists discovered a way to revert cancerous cells back into normal functioning cells. The only problem is that is hasn't been tested on humans yet.

I want to go to school and study biology, hopefully contributing to finding a cure one day.

The problem of cancer is too complicated to come up with a "cure". We will have to find an effective treatment method. It would be like asking for a cure for an amputated limb. There is no cure, but we can treat those problems with increasing medical technology.

I'm definitely sure there is a cure somewhere where we know of it or not.
But when studying in school we learned that certain fruits, vegetables and compounds can drastically reduce cancerous cells. And eventually lead to a cure.

But whether or not the government is withholding information, I can't be certain!

Curing it and treating it is actually two different things. Yeah they could charge a lot for the cure, but it would be a one-time payment since it's a cure. Meanwhile they can continuously charge for chemotherapy and other forms of treatment for years, per person.

I'd like to think that a cure exists already, or that we're close to finding one, but it would honestly not surprise me if pharmaceutical companies are withholding the cure from us.

Go on believing that if you wish, but I have lost several family members to cancer, and know hundreds of others, and none has shown a connection to food, with several being proven genetic. If everybody suddenly went vegan, you would probably not notice a change in cancer rates at all.

@adquidorator - There are doctors claiming all kinds of things. After watching the you tube video you provided a link to, I found other reports contesting many parts of it. I place a greater confidence in sources such as the link provided by the O. O. But she should read it more carefully that I think she did. "Over-all meat-free diets appear to be at least modestly cancer protective (10%–12% reduction in risk) in most, but not all reports, however the results for specific cancers are less clear." So including colorectal and prostate cancers brings the benefit up to 12%, but other cancers have less reductions. And even using the overall figure, a reduction of even 12% is so far from "if everyone went vegan there would be no cancer to worry about" that conclusion of this opinion is laughable. "No cancer" would be a 100% reduction, not 12%. So I guess there is still a lot to worry about.

All cancers behave differently, and there can be multiple in the same area. I believe there are ways that will destroy/stop these, but only one at a time currently.
