I was suppose to get a blood test but have a phobia of this and couldn't go through with it?

i know it sounds stuiped but i was at doctors office and he wanted me to get a blood test as i had been complaining about headaches and fatique at work. but i felt it may be unnecessary or searching in wrong direction for answers. i told him i was suppose to get one 10 years ago but backed out of the idea and had a severe phobia of the whole thing and couldn't likely go through with the idea. i walked down to the lab that did the tests but couldn't even walk past the front desk and had no interest in going through with this. i'm not scared of needles as i had several shots when i was younger and handled them ok , its just the whole idea of blood being taken out of me that just freaks me out completly , i have also never been able to donate blood and don't even know what my exact blood type is

Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. It is difficult, and I do understand your anxiety over it. I had to have my blood drawn several days a week for months while they tried to diagnosed me. I do not have an issue with that. Can you talk to your doctor so s/he can suggest methods to help calm your anxiety and phobia before you have to go?

What my issue is, is having a tube down my throat and up my butt... and I had to have a double (an endoscopy colonoscopy). I had realyl strong anxiety about this and couldn't sleep for a week. They put me under anesthesia so I wasn't conscious but still.. I hope I don't have to do that again any time soon. I hope your doctor can help you, so you can see and check to make sure nothing is wrong.

The blood tests showed levels that were really high, and showed other things. I had to change my diet and I feel better now. So it's good to get it done.

You can try going with a friend to get your blood test. Get the friend to engage you in conversation to distract you, get your mind off of what's actually happening. Tell the lab tech to now count down or anything and to basically just clean off your arm, get everything ready but to not give you a heads up right before they put the needle in.

I've asked them to not count down before and I honestly didn't even notice the needle going in that way.

Should listen to the doc and force yourself through it if he thinks it's needed. I was in a car crash a few years ago. They wanted to take blood for some reason and I agreed. I've got quite a lot of veins sticking out on my forearms and hands so the guy said he could take the blood out of a vein on the back of my hand. He missed the blood vessel four times so I lost the plot with him and told him to fuck off. I've had a thing about needles since then and hate giving blood. I know it's a complex I've developed in my head but it's bloody hard to shake. Ask him to put you under with a mild anesthetic. That's what I'm doing if I ever have to part with a few drips in future

Just get it done dude, I used to have it done every month. The first time I did it I looked away; there's barely any pain, it's like a pinch and it was done in 3 seconds. And, I'm terrified of needles.

You should see if they can do something for you, such as knock you out so they can take your blood or something.

I asked if there was any alternatives and they said no , I went back to doctor office to try and talk to him but he was gone for lunch , I talked to my parents about this doctor and they said they had bad experiences with him too and didn't feel he listened

Try and get a different doctor then, one that will work with you and your phobia so you can get better.

I had never even meet this doctor before , guess I hadn't been to office in a few years and he had taken over practice from past doctor I went to when he retired , I'm not sure you can just find another doctor around here that easily
