How strong are male cheerleaders?

Pretty strong. We had a guy on our team who was actually also the quarterback of his high school team. The sports are very different, so it's a bit weird to compare the two, but essentially, he's said that he found cheerleading to be more difficult. Both sports required him to lift weights on his own time, and both practices had similar conditioning (sprints, jogging, drills, etc.). When it came to practicing actual skills for the sport though, he said that cheerleading was harder, because you have so much more areas to cover (tumbling, single stunting, group stunting, jumps, dance, pyramid) and less time to do it. In terms of physical strain, cheerleading left him more tired and exhausted than football usually did. He felt that cheerleading required more strength in comparison to football (and the position he played) because cheerleading is pretty much all weight lifting, almost constantly, and football required him to throw a ball that weighed nearly nothing. It would probably different for a linebacker though, but it's also completely different types of strength. Football tackling would require using your body's mass and speed (combined with strength) to exert enough force to knock someone over. Cheerleading is more about sheer strength and some momentum, but less momentum than what would be required to tackle since the lifter is stationary and you'd also be fighting against gravity rather than working with it like in football. Lmao sorry, I'm getting all technical with this now.

As long as your bases can catch and lift you your gonna flyer! I use do cheer when I was younger and I was both a flyer and catcher

I think you mean a single person not a single base, a base is made up of 2-4 people, having a one person bases is very dangerous when it comes to catching flyers. I have witnessed horrible accidents and they encourage use to throw ourselves at the floor to break the flyers fall if there's a botch

I think he means co-ed cheer because his question was "how strong are MALE cheerleaders".

Co-ed cheer = partner stunts (one guy/base, one girl/flyer)

All girl cheer = group stunts (two bases, one back spot, one flyer)

in college, it's pretty common. a lot of college cheerleaders tend to be former players who either got hurt or whatever. they're usually jacked. and i'd definitely do it if i went to a bigger school. mainly cause you get to touch girls... i'm kidding.

Most of those girls are 120 lbs at most, you dont have to be very strong to lift that.

They have to press the girls up (full arm extension) and hold them there for a minute or more sometimes. Plus the strength/power that it takes to do full out tumbling.

They're not "power weight lifters" but that are damn strong. Many are former high school football players. No joke. And no... most of them are not gay either. LOL.

It's more muscle endurance. Picture doing a shoulder press with 120 lbs and each time you raise her up you hold her there for long periods of time (anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes) and then you'd do that over and over again with no breaks for about half an hour. In my team, if you drop your flyer, you'd have to do 20 pushups. Then multiply 20 by how many stunt groups fell in your entire team (anywhere from 4 to like 11). It's fucking torture.
