Whats with toed shoes?

Hey peeps does any one know much about these type of toed shoes?
Im sure they been out for a while but dont know what they are about very much, any ideas?

As far as I was aware, these were shoes for athletic things like parkour so that you could grip properly and be more agile than in normal trainers. I've also seen divers wear similar shoes, so for me, these were for sports and recreational stuff. Haven't seen people wear them in public yet fortunately :P

Must suck if you step on some... poop, and it comes around the fingers... very bad to clean.
