Do you believe in Censorship? Unlimited Censorship? Censorship with Limitations? Or is all Censorship bad? Please vote in the poll

When i was 5 years old something like that we had got a new color TV and and my dad and I were watching it and they kept calling President Kennedy President Kennedy and I asked my dad why he told me because of respect and then there was something that was beeped out and I asked what that was about and he says that TV is censored there's certain things on there that they cannot say in their certain things on there they can say and I said well why and he said because TV is going to change the world if anybody was allowed to say anything on there it's programming the people to basically be just like the TV the people on the TV

If you look at it today There's nothing that could be said that would shock you all the way from words to nudity

Now on Gag come election time you get all these people who start talking just like their favorite newscaster the right wing the left wing and brainwashing and brainwashing and brainwashing comes out of their mouth in there questions

You watch TV commercials you watch movies Everything is a form of brainwashing

After paying attention to this I quit watching TV about 6 years ago because you can see it you can hear it and you can see the followers the little sheep that resay it

Yes it should be censored certain things should be censored yes but nowadays what is sensorization nothing because it's all a form of brainwash control because we've all gotten too big for our britches and everybody has to control everybody else it's sad it sucks that there is such an evil in this planet and they are the ones that run it so they can do anything they want we just all have to be smarter and know what is happening

The thing about censorship is it can turn into a wildfire. One group sees something as bad or offensive, raises hell about it, and before long it starts spreading to things that weren’t even the problem in the first place.

What means one thing to one person can mean something completely different to somebody else, so once you start limiting ideas, the question becomes who gets to decide where that line is.

Sometimes censorship makes sense though, because some people are crazy as hell and there are things that can genuinely cause harm. But that’s the paradox of a free society. If people are free, they’re also free to say some wild shit, offend people, challenge ideas, and cause friction.

And honestly, I think some friction is necessary. You don’t get stronger ideas if nobody is allowed to challenge them. Even a plant has to push through dirt to reach the surface.

So do I believe in censorship? Sometimes. But I’m very cautious about who gets that power and how far they’re allowed to take it. Hell of a question.

Censorship is oppression > oppression is lack of freedom > lack of freedom is always slavery.
Ergo: If you aren't allowed to know full truth, you're enslaved by those who don't let you to know full truth, for whatever reason.

Depends on who is doing the censoring, and the context. Government keeping pornography out of public schools is good. Private people censoring what appears in forums which they own is okay. Censorship of political thought is verboten!

If you limit a single dot, it’s already censorship.
It’s an all or nothing thing.
And a society claiming to be free should not have a shred of censorship.

Even if that means someone out there will say things you and I don’t wanna hear.

And I’m not saying that the freedom of expression should be a freedom of consequence

If you exercise that freedom to attack someone then you should be liable for your actions.

That’s not censorship that’s accountability.

I don't believe in censorship, except when you are targeting specific audiences, such as children or teens, OR if it's a government entity, in which case some limited things (ratings or content warnings for adults, and more restrictions for children) for that content.

I do think that a ratings system is appropriate, and I do think that media that is accurately rated should be exempt from being sued for content.

Note that this is completely separate from whether the market embraces or rejects the media in question - the market is allowed to have its opinion and is allowed to make its own choices. No one is guaranteed an audience, much less a paying audience.

I voted all though naturally some limits must exist... just when some say with limits they mean a lot more censorship than me. Ideally no censorship would exist but ya know sickos like kids that's the obvious must be so. I do not agree with however censoring for kids if they want to see a horror film let them. I can tell you for a fact horror movies, video games didn't mess me up, ya can thank my crazy mother for that one instead.

Self censorship is the ideal world okay you don't want to see it then you don't have too, and I hate those who call for things to be censored that ya know they do self censor themselves anyway yet think they have any right to say that it must be censored too for my sake. That's bs and think so is think of the children the grand excuse to not blame yourself for being a bad parent whether it was not teaching your kid the difference between reality and fiction or not listing to them or being too overprotective.

yes, as a concept for what it is responsible and makes sense... there's a time and space for everything, and some things shouldn't just be broadcasted so everyone is exposed to it

but no... for the other concept in which authoritarian figures do try or effectively control narratives to convenience

and connected to this, there's also the so-called "Freedom of Speech" which doesn't just give you a 'free license" to just go around and say whatever stupid insulting unhinged shit, or lies like it happens at certain places and it all gets out of control, that... no, that has to be measured

I don't care if people get offended. That's their problem.

The only censorship I condone would be blatant calls for conspiracy to commit violence. Also protecting children from certain things.

the stuff liberals censor for- is "fascist censoring opinions" using various excuses 'offensive' for opinions that are not insults. so fascist- censor is bad.

but censor for quality is justified.

in general censorship is bad unless the statement makes anyone look bad without real proof. "even" if it makes trump look bad it must be censored because it is not criticism of any policy. but liberals host defaming trump. so i get triggered.

Depends strongly on what is censored and where. Kids shouldn't be confronted with everything on for example TV. Yes, I might be a bit old fashioned, but the same goes for X, TikTok and a lot more.
