Trending & News Looking at sites for bronchitis...
-- Drink warm liquids. It helps soothe throat and lets the phlegm be loose and easier to escape. Possible drinks: Warm water with lemon or honey, warm soup, herbal tea.
-- Use a hot compress on your chest. (I. e. warm shower, hot water bottle, stuff like that)
-- Stay away from caffeinated stuff, but consume lots of liquid in general. This will help keep mucus thin and easier to expel.
For the specifics of breath, I'd say...
-- Breath humid air. For example, take a hot steamy shower and breath the air that comes from that. Naturally, make sure the door is closed. Lungs and stuff drying out won't help the fight for bronchitis freedom.
-- If you are wheezing, you may need medication that is usually used to treat asthma... an inhaler for instance. You'd probably need to consult with your doctor over it.
-- Use cough suppressants only when your cough is dry. Don't fight the mucus giving coughs.
-- For combating shortness of breath, use pursed lip breathing:
The steps for pursed lip breathing:
1. Relax the muscles in your neck and shoulders. Sit in a comfortable chair with your feet on the floor.
2. Breathe in (inhale) slowly through your nose for two counts.
3. Feel your belly get larger as you breathe in.
4. Pucker your lips as if you were going to whistle or blow out a candle.
5. Breathe out (exhale) slowly through your lips for four or more counts.
Be sure to exhale normally. Do not force air out. Do not hold your breath when you are doing pursed-lip breathing. Repeat these steps until your breathing improves.

Normally antibiotics should start working pretty quickly, if it doesn't start to improve quickly I would rather check out with your doctor.
I've had bronchites in the past and so has my mom but when I hear shallow breathing I'd rather think about asthma or pneumonia.
I cant' provide any trick, just wish you a speedy recovery :D
Last time I had bronchitis the dr had me take Benadryl and ibuprophen every 4-6 hours and called it good.
If you go out make sure to wear a scarf and even cover your mouth and nose with it if it's cold. You can also try like tussin but not the expectorant just the cough suppressant.
For the shallow breathing id just call your doctors office and ask them for an albuterol prescription.
Hope you're feeling better soon <3
Since I have asthma anytime I got bronchitis. I would have to use my breathing machine. Which puts out medical smoke that I have to breath in.
Normally the high fever was the worse part. Plus the last time I got it I had just arrived in Hawaii for 9 days with my family. Lucky for me I only showed sick symptoms around 5pm everyday until I got better.

For the pain itself drinking warm to sort of hot liquids helps and breathing in humid and warm air such as steam so take a steamy shower or put a pot of water on the stove and boil it so that it produces steam it should help make it more humid and you might also stand over it and actually breath in the steam itself.
When I had bronchitis I was prescribed an asthma-style inhaler that opened up the "airways" (bronchioles) I was also encouraged to try not to couch when I felt the tickle/urge to... not sure if either of these might help you? (pls check with your doctor if you think they may)
I would sit under blankets with a steaming mug of tea and inhale and drink. I did this every night and took antibiotics.
Inhaler, and staying always as warm as you possibly can. Drink hot beveragea during the day, and specially at night and let the antibiotics do their work.
