I'll skip breakfast and all the sweet things
Are 2 meals per days enough or not?
I'll skip breakfast and all the sweet things
Personal trainer here, and three meals per day are key.
At a minimum.
The optimal solution is to eat 4-6 times per day, using small portions, and with the largest meal of the day being an early breakfast. Think about this, your body is craving nutrients after a good night's sleep (7-9 hours), because it spent time and resources repairing and rebuilding bodily systems. Breakfast helps set the metabolic tone for the rest of the day -- you skip it for a long enough period of time, and your body goes into crisis mode and stores everything consumed.
So, a big breakfast first, and then little meals throughout the day. And if you don't have time to eat except at designated break periods, use a meal replacement shake. But only drink a reduced portion of it, like half of it or so. The reason behind this is that you want your stomach to be constantly working all day, constantly "burning" small meals instead of one huge meal. This kicks up your metabolism and helps you to lose weight, even if your don't work out often.
Why?
Because if your body "knows" its getting a steady, routine supply of nutrients every day, it will start using stored calories (fat) for other things. It won't store so much because resources are always flowing in. The trick to this that your body is a highly adaptive, multi-systemic organism, and like every organism on the planet, it strives for an end goal of routine homeostasis, a steady and functional balance between effort and efficiency.
Never skip breakfast. Never.
Is it also true ur not supposed to eat later in the day? How much time before bed should u stop eating?
@aliceinwonderland69 A couple hours from bedtime is a smart idea. Making sure that you've been drinking enough water throughout the day, so that the next morning's first pee is relatively clear, is also a great idea. Your body is adaptive as hell, though. Once you get on a routine and keep it for a week or two, your body adapts and changes accordingly, affecting your mood if you suddenly disrupt that routine.
Here's a good guide for you to consider:

I'm not hungry the morning, not at all. Plus I don't sleep a lot like around 5 - 6 hours so I don't think well the morning and feel like throw up.
I eat two time a day and only small portion. I never have more than 200 - 300 gr of nutriment per meals, I don't think that's huge
So I have problem with my weight. But I always thought it was what I ate and the amount. I wonder if I could lose weight without making dramatic change to how much I eat. I don't eat breakfast and have small late lunch. Large evening meal and snacks before bed. If I had large cooked breakfast then smaller lunch and dinner without snack before bed could I lose weight? I mean without making dramatic change to calorie consumption. I eat around 2500 cals a day which I know is a lot for a woman especially as I don't do enough exercise.
Thanks in advance for advice.
Ok. Take your body weight in pounds and divide it by 2.2. This gives you your body weight in kilograms, or your mass. From there, take your mass and multiply it by 24 (because 24 hours in the day).
This gives you your Daily Metabolic Intake (DMI), the number of calories that are required PER DAY to maintain your current body mass/weight.
Once you have that figured out, consider the following:
->1 gram of Protein = 4 calories
->1 gram of Carbohydrates = 4 calories
->1 gram of Lipids/fats = 9 calories
Now pick three percentages that when added equal 100%. These percentages should correspond with your current level of physical activity.
For example: I use 50% carbs, 35% protein, and 15% lipids/fats.
When you multiply your DMI by each percentage, and then divide the solution by the caloric breakdown of the macro-nutrients above, you'll get an idea of how to break down portion sizes for meals.
Example: (2000 kcals * 0.5) / 4 = 250g of Carbs per day.
Wow, thanks. Screen shot for reference. Have to go do maths now, lol. U should do my take if u haven't already. What percentages for people who don't do much exercise?
And if you are trying to lose weight, subtract NO MORE THAN 500 calories from your Daily Caloric Intake (DCI) and work out the math from there.
Example: I weigh 220 lbs. My mass is 100 kg. My Daily Caloric Intake is 2400 kcals/day. My ***Adjusted*** Daily Caloric Intake is 1900 kcals/day.
My daily breakdown of macro-nutrients is as follows:
Carbs -- 50% = 237.5 grams/day
Protein -- 35% = 166.25 grams/day
Lipids/fats -- 15% = 31.66 grams/day
Carbs per meal [n = 6] = 39.58 grams
Protein per meal [n = 6] = 27.71 grams
Lipids/fats per meal [n = 6] = 5.28 grams
U definetely hav to put this in a My Take.
But what happens if u minus more than 500 cals?
@aliceinwonderland69 Its dangerous and unhealthy.
By merely subtracting 500 calories from your daily diet, it translates to -1 lb of fat loss per week, even if you don't exercise. Just mind your Saturated Fat intake. No more than 10 grams of Sat-fat per day, the lesser the better.
Sat-fat is converted to fat tissue within 15-20 mins of it arriving at your stomach.
Skipping breakfast works for intermittent fasting techniques. You should look those up, they are great. I use them for pre-physique contest prep mainly.
@ConsultantIsBack But for general fitness, fasting is a bad idea. At least in my opinion.
Especially so if you're trying to cut weight on the long term.
Thanks guys.
Should be more than enough. Unless you have snacks then 2 meals is too much.
Through out human history, the body is designed to go for days without meals and you can subsist on tiny snacks like nuts and such. If you would spend a couple seconds thinking: how did people lived in caves when they couldn't store their food in a refrigerator? Most fruits are seasonal and can not be kept for more than a couple days and hunting would take days to get you a really really lean meat that will last for a day before they stink. Grains rot in a couple months without proper storages.
I would suggest you to fast (eat nothing) for 1 day a week. Studies are being conducted on the effects of small fastting periods on chance of illness like diabetes and heart attacks. There seem to be a link in eating regularly and increased chance of getting diabetes.
For the goal of weight loss, a healthy breakfast should be the first thing on your mind when you wake in the morning. This important meal will jump start your metabolism and provide the energy you need to start your day.
When you routinely skip breakfast, you are telling your body that "no food is available at this time of day", and your body will respond by storing calories (in the form of fat) from the day before to compensate. The signal you want to send to your body is that food is readily available at all times of the day-in small quantities.
Eating smaller meals frequently throughout the day provides your body with just enough energy and nutrients to make to the next meal without having to stockpile calories for "a rainy day". To lose weight, ideally, you should be eating 5-6 small meals or snacks during your waking hours and a healthy breakfast is the best way to start.
Breakfast is really important and by skipping it you're doing more harm than good. Aslo it depends on the times you eat too. Most people eat every hours give or take a few hours. If you're skipping breakfast to lose weight then I suggest you stop that and instead try eating small meals throughout the day. You won't have to starve yourself and it keeps your metabolism running well I heard. Some people eat multiple small meals throughout the day instead of eating 3 large meals to lose weight along with exercise.
I eat 2 little meals. I can't eat a but every hours or something like that cause of my work. It's forbidden to bring food at my work only water bottle is allowed
I don't care if I'm hungry, I can manage that. It's not a problem, I just want to lose weight
Starving yourself might promote binge eating which is much worse for your body than simply eating meals when you need to. If you wanna lost weight I suggest exercizing and doing cardio workouts. Don't eat too many carbs and drink plenty of water. You don't have to starve yourself to lose weight. You just have to get into a routine of healthy habits. Eat lots of fruits and veggies too and get some protein into your diet so you're not hungry quickly.
I'm just afraid that the day I stop exercise I would gain weight back

If you're going to skip a meal, do NOT let it be breakfast. You need that. Unless you work a night job, breakfast is the meal that matters most.
I suggest skipping lunch, if you're going to skip one meal. You can eat breakfast, have a snack a few hours after noon, then eat dinner. That's what I have been doing for two or so years. It doesn't affect my health, and my stomach is used to it so I don't even feel hungry at lunch.
My only warning to you, though, is to pay attention to your body's needs. If you find yourself tired from skipping lunch, or feeling faint at all, you definitely should eat. Maybe replace the meal for a snack? Stay safe.
You'll want to spread out your meals throughout the day more, smaller meals. Just to have a steady stream of nutrition, not so much the "eat more meals to boost your metabolism" -- That's a myth mostly. A recently debunked myth, so I assume you'll get guys on here preaching that.
And pasta at dinner, you'll want to avoid having carbs at night, it's better to have it earlier in the day (and if you can make it whole wheat pasta that is much better).
But ya I assume your fitness goal is to lose body fat? Definitely focus on a daily caloric deficit and maybe some fasted cardio routines. Good luck!
if you have to do that, better off skipping lunch than breakfast.
Also, better to have carbs during the day (so you will burn them) then as your last mean of the day. So meat and veggies should be dinner.
If trying to lose weight, remember that dropping your regular calorie intake below a certain level isn't safe. So don't starve yourself.
Yes but that's so difficult to lose weight
I know. But starving yourself isn't the solution.
cutting fats and sugars (mostly sugars, believe it or not) is more important than eating less. because fats and sugars are where most the calories are.
And exercise matters a lot. It is normal and natural for us to eat, but we eat as fuel. So you have to do something with the fuel! Walking/jogging/running/biking/swimming are great ways to burn some of that.
If you are stable now (staying at roughly the same weight), then dropping as few as 100 calories from your diet, and burning as little as 100 more a day, will set you towards losing weight.
Lastly, our bodies are kinda dumb. go too low on calories, and our bodies think we're starving and go into survival mode, making it HARDER to lose weight.
I do work out but it's for having better legs and smaller waist in general.
Even if I eat less I can't lose more weight.
I gain weight so quickly that's make it difficult to loose it now
I don't really about my health I just want to lose weight and not gain it anymore
When I used to shred my only meal for the entire day would be a bag of chips, and I would run 10 km. I am not saying you should do that but 2 meals is definitely enough.
However, what I would do if I were you is have breakfast and skip dinner because throughout the day you will be able to burn the breakfast but whats the point of dinner? You would just go to sleep, so you dont need the calories.
I can't skip dinner cause I can't sleep if i'm hungry plus I don't really eat a lot at lunch. After diner I work out for like 30 minute so I burn some calories too
Thank you :)
You could probably live on 2 meals but than the breakfast would need to be extensive - enough to make it through the day until dinner.
A direct collegue of mine does that every day and she looks okay :D
No breakfast is not a good idea, your body needs energy to start the day!
The body is designed to have meals throughout the day. It is most apparent in type II diabetics who control their diabetes with a proper diet that is properly spaced out to maintain proper levels in you. A lot of pre-diabetics become diabetic by not getting proper intakes throughout the day.
And breakfast is critical. The body has gone without for many hours and is in need of intake at that time. Skipping breakfast can definitely strain and possibly damage your body.
If you're not hungry then you're fine. I've only ever had 2 meals a day all my life but not for weight loss, just cause. I skip lunch though. They say the best thing is to eat several times a day, but small portions. I don't know many people that eat like this but supposed to be the best way lol
Probably not enough. Figure yoir out your caloric needs to lokse weight. Get your diet on track then you will loose weight because 80% of loosing weight is through diet. 1 to 2 pounds a week is a healthy weight loss goal. Those who loose more than that a week are more likely to gain it all back.
This was 3 month and I only lose 4 pounds
Then I'd suggest your not eating enough and how much weight do you have to loose?
Sounds fine, as long as you don't feel like you have low energy, there's nothing wrong with dropping calories. I would say that you should switch your meals up a bit and avoid heavy carb meals before you go to sleep, they're harder to digest and you would "waste" their energy.
Still though, two meals is fine as long as you make sure you feel healthy.
If those two meals are high enough in calories then you're fine. I'm like that too I eat breakfast but I don't get hungry again until 7pm so I make sure my dinner makes up for lunch and is full of veggies and lean meat
Not enough, especially if you're trying to loose weight, the time from when you sleep to the morning is when your body NEEDS food, try to eat all three but smaller portions.
Stopping yourself from eating because you want to lose weight isn't the right thing to do, you should be eating 5 times a day, breakfast being the most important meal in the day, you should watch what you eat and combine it with exercise
I control what I eat and do work out but I don't lose weight. It's for that I want to skip meal
You should be patience, results take time to appear
I wouldn't advise skipping breakfast you have no energy throughout the day, I don't have a lunch though so it's possible to skip.
I'm not hungry the morning so I was thinking that it's not a big deal
I try to it the less I can when I get home
It would be better to have more frequent small meals than just 2 bigger ones? (Given the same total food intake)
As long as you get a minimum amount of calories it's all right. Take a vitamin pill. Calories must be more than 1100
Don't skip meals, it messes with your blood sugar and metabolism. 3 meals and a snack or two is good
this is a lot too much I would be a fattie if I eat so much
But I already eat small portion so if I eat 5 time a day I will gain weight
not enough, skip dinner instead! you need breakfast to give you energy for the day
I can't skip dinner I'm too hungry and I can't sleep if I'm hungry
That's not easy at all, I don't snack and i don't eat any sweet food, I work out too everyday but i just don't lose any weight
pasta, meat, vegetable, rice, fish. This been like 3 month but I only lose like 4 lbs that's nothing
I hope, thank you :)
If you make them 1200 , 1500 calories meal, then sure.
It's better to have smaller frequent meals than to have two big meals during the day.
Yes, I think 2 meals are quite sufficient for one day, but it depends on the person.
No skipping breakfast is a gad idea that is the most important meal of the day.
I'm not hungry the morning
Presently i eat two meals a day. so i dont think its an issue.
I eat when I'm hungry but I never skip breakfast when I go out.
I need breakfast. If I only wake up in the afternoon I do skip a meal sometimes but I usually just have dinner really late in that case.
its enough i think but i head that breakfast is very important.
Not not no no never skip the meal on the morning its when u can eat more and more hc
If I eat the morning I will gain weight
I work out but I still not lose weight
eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper
That isn't even healthy.
I don't really care about that I just want to lose weight and not gain it
I know but I just want to never gain weight. I just want to lose it forever even if he take me 1 or 2 years I just want to lose weight. My health is less important for me
Maybe if you want diabetes...
Why are you skipping meals?
For losing weight
I don't recommend you do that. If you want to lose weight you should eat more meals in smaller portions instead of cutting food out suddenly. Breakfast is really important since it helps set the metabolic rate for the day.
Skipping breakfast are you insane?
Skipping meals makes you gain weight by the way.
Not enough
Eating healthy is about quality
Agreed, a good general philosophy is more about quality of nutritional value, WHAT you eat. Although the quantity does play a large role for body fat loss goals.
@ConsultantIsBack true
You need at least 3.
Not enough!
I need more food
