Distance or speed?

When you go running. Do you focus more on distance or do you focus more on now quickly you can run, say, a mile?

I usually focus on speed and trying to better it, but that makes it a little hard in the heat we've been having lately.

So tonight I'm focusing on distance, even if it's gonna kill me to see my time being god awful. I just wanna see how far I can go before I tap out.
