-building stamina takes time
-pace yourself you can't just run every 10 steps with different paces
-try to go almost full speed like 70% for 10 secs then after feeling comfortable try to go for longer like 15 secs and so on
-target shoulders/quads/hamstring/calves/abdominal all are factors in running
-take it slow it will take time consistency is the key budd

Well, you should be looking to increase your stamina. You should be able to do 1 mile in 10 minutes though. The key is not use your full potential in short bursts. Do first 4 minutes at level 9 .. Then 1 minute at your max speed say level 16.
Then again 4 minutes at level 9 and then 1 minute at level 16.
Any cardio exercise in general is good for that matter.
Try just running, really. Improving your stamina isn't a from a 0 to a hero process, it takes time and patience. Don't expect miracles. Just keep exercising on a regular basis and you'll improve steadily.
You should talk to your Dr about that. The last thing you want to do is overwork yourself or push your body past what it can handle. You need to be careful.

go into a pool, dunk your head under and last as long as you can. the more you do it, the larger your lung capacity will get
All workouts will help out with your endurance. I think Pilates especially because its focused on the core

Swimmers have amazing lung capacity
