I tried to be caring but not let their depression 'rub off' on me. I'm extremely empathetic, so it's hard to keep that distance.
When I could, I got them out of the house, made them laugh (even at my own expense), kept them smiling, was optimistic, reminded them ** EVERYTHING ** they have to live for.
If they have pets, friends (me included), their family, co-workers (also friends), family, etc. Tell them that you love them, no matter what, and you know they'll get out of this darkness.
Honestly, because usually some of the happiest people I know tend to suffer/experience depression.
- Help them remember what they have to live for. Also, try to get them to see someone.
i've been through depression for some years and it is a very worst mental illness, and sometimes i still go through it.
I've been in depression
I tend to turn to distractions like on the internet. Though, going outside more is certainly helping. (Thanks to Pokemon Go.)
I think it's all about learning to focus your attention into what's going on around you in the very moment. Not 2 minutes into the future or the past. Just focusing on the things you see feel and hear at the current moment.
