+1 yTurn off electronics put books down turn lights off. That is half the problem. Sometimes that stuff will keep your brain working and keep you up. Secondly if that doesn't work I take melatonin and im out out out.

+1 yDeep breathing works the best for me. I burned a CD with about 10 repeat of a pretty but totally boring instrumental and sometimes need to listen to that. Also, you might consider taking a magnesium supplement a few hours before bedtime. Be sort to avoid any milk or dairy products, cheese or pizza when you take it though. Magnesium, together with calcium, balance the muscles in your body. Calcium is required to tighten your muscles, while magnesium relaxes them.

I know, this is weird. Of course some of those are just exaggerations and kidding.00 Reply364 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I’ve been an insomanic (and now nocturnal!) for years.
I find if I’m having a really bad time sleep music helps. I just open YouTube and turn my phone upside down. Sleep music has a huge range so pick what you like. Personally I like wave sounds, waterfalls, rain storms, etc but others get on with birds tweeting, owls hooting, instrumental slow music. The choice is massive.
It may take a few minutes to get the right volume but close your eyes and focus on it and let your mind empty while listening. It helps me a lot.

+1 yI have had insomnia for about 2 years, so I have plenty of experience when it comes to not sleeping. I normally get around 15 min - 1 hour of sleep on weekdays and 3-5 on weekends. What I do to cope is a) take meds like Melatonin, b) turn off everything and just lie in bed till I fall asleep, or c) turn everything off, close my eyes, and make up a story in my head.
Meds aren't great to take often because you might force your body to depend on them. This would ultimately ruin any chance of sleeping naturally ever again, so I only take them once a week.00 ReplyI started developing a sleeping routine so that my brain just automatically shuts off when it is time for bed.
Basically at 9pm every day I turn off all electronics and begin getting ready for bed. This usually involves working out and brushing my teeth, possibly reading a book. Then at 10pm it is lights out and I go to sleep.
I set my alarm for 6am every single day no matter what. If I stay up late then my sleep suffers. By forcing myself to lose sleep and get up at 6am I am tired and able to fall asleep on time that day. This technique is extremely useful for when I first started doing this sleep routine as it helped my body quickly adapt to the new schedule.
If you maintain a proper sleep schedule then your brain will know that it is time to sleep and you'll be out like a light in minutes.00 Reply
+1 yI listen to asmr videos on YouTube - I think it’s pretty amazing!! Definitely helps relax me. There’s lots of different ones out there so it’s all about finding the one for you

Maybe I haven't found the asmr for me, but most that I watch is just irritating. Gives me nails on a chalkboard feeling.
+1 yHonestly, and I am sure there are people who think I am crazy, but masturbation helps me. If I am having one of those nights, I will slowly masturbate myself to a mild orgasm. It completely relaxes me and I will fall off to sleep. I have had a few nights where I fell asleep before I orgasmed. May seem unusual, but try it. What can it hurt...
10 ReplyI watch an episode if Adventure Time. Weirdly enough, that show has like a hypnotic effect on me or something. I like the show, but if I watch it in bed... well, eight times out of ten I don't even get halfway through an eleven-minute episode before I'm deep in dreamland.
00 ReplyDrink and blast the air conditioner and make the room freezing cold. Is your mind restless and hyperactive, dwelling over thoughts and memories? I have found it slightly easier to avoid this problem the more I grow older, if only because I don't give as much of a damn, and probably because I killed a number of brain cells from drunken stupors.

+1 yIf I'm lying there and can't sleep, I induce it by first getting out of breath (any way I see fit), then get back to trying to sleep. As your heart-rate reduces from the activity, it will naturally slow down which in turn induces sleep. At least, it works for me.

+1 yI eat a good meal right before bed, some people say that causing them issues falling to sleep. But for me, if I don't eat shortly before going to bed, I can't sleep and eating food helps.
Also just to note, I'm only 160lbs, slim and reasonable in shape. ;-) Just in case you were thinking otherwise.00 Replyit’s stupid but i specifically think of like a story or part in a movie or whatever that’s peaked my interest lately and i fall asleep in minutes. if i don’t and my thoughts wonder, i’m up for hours.
10 ReplyI have this problem a lot I have been going to bed about 30 minutes sooner than usual because of the length it takes for me to fall asleep and make sure I don't use my phone once I lay down. Sometimes I find music also helps. And as a last resort I do something else
00 ReplyI just close my eyes and I imagine a whole story till I fall asleep. It's like I'm writing a book by using my imagination. Either that or I try to figure out the subject I've been researching till I feel sleepy.
12 Reply- +1 y
writing a book is using your imagination
When I'm struggling to fall asleep, it's usually due to my restless mind. Sitting up, turning on the light and writing down all of my thoughts quiets my mind thoroughly, allowing me to fall asleep quickly.
