Why is it seen as douchey for guys to take pictures of their bodies?

This is something I've been thinking about for a while.

My greatest passion in life these last years has been powerlifting, I'm very competitive and I want to excel at this sport. I'm very proud of what I've achieved so far and I like showing off what I've accomplished. On my profile I have a couple of pictures of myself, some more serious than others, and I've been called douchey multiple times. If I was passionate about soccer I wouldn't be called a scumbag for showing pictures of myself playing, but since I'm a strength athlete all of a sudden I'm self obsessed.

Nobody would call a girl self obsessed if she uploaded a picture like this after hitting the gym

Quick answer would be that people stereotype and label people all the time and don't get to know you before they do that. But also, You know those girls that don't post anything else on their Instagram except 10 million selfies? The selfie is not the problem. If they want to post it, that's fine. However, it's the frequency in which they post it that makes them look "Self absorbed and obsessed and care about nothing else". I completely understand that each person likes a certain thing but mix it up a little! I love the Chainsmokers and my bff loves Kpop, but we both don't listen to the same thing everyday and portray the image that that's all we like. We also listen to other types of music even if we have a favourite! If you're proud of your progress and your body, there's no problem with showing it off and making it one of the things that stand out about you, but I think you can prove to yourself there's more to you than just one singular hobby. Instagram: Laperelly. She's a powerlifter I know and she has lots of powerlifting pictures. However, she also mixes it up and has some artsy pictures too. Personally, my main passion in life isn't just a singular hobby. My passion is the commitment I have to living a certain lifestyle and experiencing the world. That alone allows me to have more flexibility with what I post because I have a multitude of different things that I pretty much love equally. It's fun to mix it up a bit and not just focus on one thing. I think that you are more than just powerlifting. Powerlifting is a part of you, (show it off proudly!) but it isn't just what and who you are. You have many more experiences and moments to showcase as well beyond just powerlifting :) . I think that you're a multi dimensional human being too. I've always loved the movie Divergent. But I hated the factions because in a faction, you can only be kind, or you can only be selfless, or you can only be smart, or one thing at a time and portray one quality at a time. The reason I admired Four, and Tris was because they were Divergents. (Not just one thing, but everything) Express that fact that you are not just one thing. You're Divergent :) Please listen to what he says in the video before they kiss because those were some of the most inspirational words to come into my life.

I acknowledge there is a very prominent double standard that with men it’s frowned upon more than women, but I think in general, I’m personally just wary of anyone that spends a lot of time on their looks to a degree that would make me think they’re either compensating for something or they’re just insecure. Not that everyone is always like that but I think that’s just what people think.

I think it's acceptable for women to post because of double standards. Personally, I don't find it douchy. If you've got it, then show it off. But I guess it's seen as fishing for compliments or being conceited.

Because it's acceptable for women to seek attention & get attention that way, but for men it's seen as arrogant, vain, self-obsessive & narcissistic.

Almost double standards when you compare "attention" to everything else men get labelled as.

If you want to expose yourself, upload videos of pb's, or if you go to meets some photos from there, as long as it's not a typical selfie people tend to judge much less.

It's seen as narcissistic which is more accepted in women than men. Men are expected to demonstrate utility and success.
Your case is a little different in that you would be showing pride in your achievements but it may not come across that way to others.
