However I'm thinking I might be seen as kinda douchey having an Instagram specifically for that. What do you guys think?

If the goal is highlighting strength progress, then YouTube is the medium for that. You can just use it as a video workout log. Multiple positives by doing that. You're showing the consistency, what you can accomplish by sticking with it, workout ideas for others to try, actively correcting your form and picking up on mistakes from watching yourself online. So much good from having a legit video log. So yea, definitely go with YouTube if that's the goal.
Instagram is more about highlights where you post the best. So if you wanted to get away with a strength progress page it should have things like 1. PR's 2. Failures 3. Pics of you getting up early to go to the gym/motivate others to do the same 4. Physique update shots 5. Some motivational stuff that resonates with you 6. Other peoples progress in the gym.
Because then the instagram really is about growth, strength and progress rather than just yourself. At that point you're promoting a lifestyle, attacking your goals and being integrous.
The things you listed at the end there are exactly the things I'm thinking about posting. By posting all the big PRs I make it will become like a progress log but a bit more exciting than just regular sets
Yeah of course, I'll probably end up making one
I’m also 18 and my god dude, you’re ripped as hell. If you like working out and getting them gains, share it. It’s only douchey if you’re super over your head about it. If it’s that important to you, go for it my guy.
Thanks man, appreciate it
I think it's amazing they are into fitness and keeping such great shape, I love that in a guy. I'm also similar I love workout out, yoga, running, body improvement for general health. I take that as a sign of someone really wanting to take care of themselves. That being said a lot are meat heads and aren't relationship material, but there's always a gem among them.
Thanks for MHO
I don’t really care.
This guy who hit me up at the gym and now follows me has a “gym/fitness” account and it seems a little shallow but talking to him he actually seems like a sweet guy so I don’t mind it. I don’t think I’ll ever follow him back though 😂

Honestly, and this is the super monk part of me, I made an Instagram where I follow nobody and have no followers for this. I log my progression, get it on a easy to intake and chronological format, and don't have to think about my image to the outside world
I don't mind or care, it is their hobby. I am by no means a weak guy, but I certainly am not dedicated to fitness as much as others. I'm sure someone thinking me posting pictures of my cars or guns is just as stupid.
I do get the feeling though the gym accounts, especially of very low fat, well-trimmed bodybuilder types, are actually more for getting validation from other men instead of women. Even if completely unintentional.
I don't think that is an issue. Is that you on the picture?
And what are your major lifts? How about press? Just out of curiosity.
Yeah my profile picture is me, I'm not the guy smiling on the picture in the question though.
My squat, bench press and deadlift are 152,5kg, 120kg and 167,5kg in that order. I weigh 84kg
Not bad. Clearly your best lift is your bench, 120 is pretty good, especially at your age. I'm struggling with my puny bench press just now - I'm at a weird stage of my life where I press almost as much as I bench.
If you don't mind 2 more questions:
1) How tall are you for that 84 kilos?
2) Have you ever taken AAS, GH, or creatine? (I know they are not the same, but whatever).
Oh wait do you mean overhead press when you say press? I thought you were referring to bench when you were saying that. Well to answer your first question my overhead press is 70 kg, I consider it my best lift but it doesn't really count to anything as it isn't a part of the sport of powerlifting.
Thats pretty weird that you can overhead press almost the same as you can bench, why do you think that's the case? Also I'm 182 cm and I've never taken any supplements other than protein powder, creatine and sometimes pre workout.
Yeah, I meant OHP. I weight around 67 kg now, and that's my one rep OHP max, meanwhile the bench is... Let's not mention it :'D
The reason is that I have always avoided training for the bench because, stupid or not, I was always afraid of getting stuck under the barbell, and I never had any gym buddies or dedicated spotters to help me. I started benching IN GENERAL since this January or so, and my 1rm is probably around 80something kg, but I don't dare push myself too muchm exactly because I can't usually rely on spotters.
OHP I've been doing a while, around half a year or so. Did calisthenics before that.
It's just a transitional period, I expect to reach 90-100 kilo bench in the upcoming months, if all things go well. It's just a lot harder to push myself to the limit and reach hypertrophy with benching, because I always have to calculate with my strength running out, and me getting choked the f out by the barbell. And that's not conducive to strength gain.
Yeah, 182 cm and 84 kg is pretty reasonable. Cries in 170 cm LOL
Protein is nothing, just a shortcut so that you don't have to consume an entire chicken farm every day. Creatine is trickier, but it can't hurt. Never tried it, but i heard it is good stuff.
Anyway, I would urge you to do clean & OHP and seated dumbbell overhead presses often - it gives insane constitution to the muscles. As I said, I used to do calisthenics , and i though I reached my limit (how wrong I was...), then I started doing power cleans and OHPs, among other things... Fuck, I built about 6 or 7 kilos of muscles out of nowhere, and basically improved in every imaginable exercise. Went from struggling with strict muscle-ups to doing strict muscle-ups with 10 kilogram plates.
Damn you can OHP your weight, that's dope man. That's one of my big goals right now.
Doesn't your gym have safety racks on the benches? If you have those there should be no risk of dying under the bar. And yeah I've been thinking about doing some clean and jerks just because they look fun but I can't really figure out how I would implement that into my current training routine without messing up my recovery for the other lifts. But I'm definitely gonna look into doing that somehow.
"Doesn't your gym have safety racks on the benches?"
The benches in my gym are literally off center, so don't expect much. There is a "safety rack", but those are just 10 cm below the standard rack, and if I am at that point, I might as well finish the rep from triceps. The problems start in the lower half/third of the exercise, where pectoral activation is harder. I tried setting up elevated floor presses, where you start from a negative position, I'm working with that right now. Anyway, I am training bench full power now, it's not that I can't test my 1rm without someone spotting (obviously).
Oh, yeah, recovery's a bitch. I've been thinking about hopping on HGH for recovery among other things, but it's so expensive here, you might as well sell your soul to the devil. Well, maybe when I hit my absolute max, AND get a real job.
If you do seated incline presses, you could substitute that with OHPs. The only thing you have to be careful about is to give yourself enough time to recover for deadlifts, because the clean can put quite a stress on your back.
Alright I see. But wait why would I do incline bench instead of standard OHP?
And yeah the recovery for deadlifts is the main reason I haven't done any cleans yet. Also since I squat low bar my low back does get beat up quite a bit already so implementing a new pull off the floor into my routine is gonna be tough
"why would I do incline bench instead of standard OHP?"
I don't know, but I noticed more people doing incline presses than standing OHPs. Probably incline presses are less intimidating.
Well, do what you will, I am sure you will make the best of it.
Meanwhile here I am, not having to worry about squats, because there isn't even a squat rack in my gym, just a stupid smith machine. And I am not going to clean 100 kg just to front-squat it... Some gym are just trash. But at least it is cheap, and close.
Same opinion as you have of girls that post endless pics of themselves in revealing attire, yet are not bikini models...
Maybe you didn't read the entire question but I said in there that I wouldn't be posting a lot of pictures of me flexing, it would mostly just be videos of me hitting new strength records
@furiousrat you probably fucked up by posting that shirtless tank :D
Tbh, most people skim read, especially when profiles present scantily clad men and women.
Whatever the reason/ justification for showing skin - people will kind of make assumptions. In terms of the insta “marking progress” ... I’d feel it was the same as a insta girl showing the progress of her various surgeries, injections, breast enlargement procedures.
I’m sure it is of interest to a certain audience , but the majority will likely assume the profile is of an attention seeking, image obsessed narcisstic type, that is most likely doubling the profile up to DM insta women.
Sorry, just being honest.
Nah don't be sorry, I think you're very right that most people will view it as a narcissistic thing. To me it's more like showing that you're progressing as a football player than showing surgical modifications to the body. Because powerlifting is not really about how you look at all, it's a strength sport more than anything else. That's why the majority of the content would be fully clothed and I'd be hitting big lifts. I do still see how people would find it a display of narcissism though
@Beigetree123 what the heck are you talking about. Whos talking about showing skin. Only you.
The guy wants to post videos of him doing deadlifts and benchpresses. What the fuck does this have anything to do with surgeries and breast enlargments.
Fucking lmao at the mental mumbo jumbo women do sometimes.
The people that skim view/ read the profile are likely to make the assumptions I've mentioned. Also, whatever the audience, the profile would be perceived as seeking validation and attention.
When I use to do that I found the bodybuilding community was super supportive. But ultimately, it's toxic behavior. Improving yourself to get validation for others is not the way to go. If you want to go ahead, but you're only doing yourself a disservice.
If you have a relatively large following, yeah why not.
Otherwise i dont really see the point
Well I have 0 following because I haven't made the account yet
Nah but I never post there
Well im probably not the right person to answer this because instagram is just pointless to me if you are not famous, in my opinion.
I refrain myself from creating an account, not because i hate instagram but simply because no one would care. Who cares about me going to the gym. Posting holiday pictures.
I dont think even my own girlfriend cares
Most people don’t start out famous, he has to build a fan base from the ground up
Yeah I guess you're kinda right. But it's always fun to share your progress with the few that give a shit. Also it's fun to have your strength progress documented so you can go back and look at older posts and all that
@welshmatt625
Most people dont become famous because of instagram. They are famous for other things and then get famous on instagram.
True but it’s possible; if he’s willing to put the work in, collaborate with others and consider other platforms as well then I don’t see why he can’t make a success of it or he could just do it for fun, it’s whatever really 😁
Personally, I feel like you're pleased with your body and you want to share that progress with others. It's certainly not as interesting as animal pictures/videos.
Been thinking about doing the same. Either on Instagram or YouTube. I just don't want my phone filled with vids or pics of me and my body. It's free cloud storage.
Not sure what the point would be unless your going to try and turn your followers into a business (eg personal trainer, fitness rep, etc)
It's mostly just to have my strength progress documented somewhere where I can easily look back and see the timeline of how I progressed
Cancer to the fitness industry... most are drug filled lifters... giving young lifters a unnatural impossible job to accomplish...
Honestly, you worked hard for it so why not show it off?
People put the lives they want others to see on the internet. It only makes sense that someone who fancies themselves as a fitness guru would have an Instagram account based on their fitness.
It's not my thing, but I think you should make one. I don't think you'll come off as douchey.
People hate them because they are jealous of their muscular body
I think they are awesome, I'm a BJJ and MMA fighter and Instagram is really good if you want a promotion
Well, as long as it helps other people i see nothing wrong with it.
I have No workout Buddies so they motivate me to kick my ass and Work Out aswell.
I love them and I find them very motivating to get off my butt and go improve myself
That's pretty much what women use Instagram for so go for it
You work hard for it so you'd want to show it off.. but too much can be like vegans telling everyone they're vegan every 5 mins
I always think like - damn, be my trainer
Don’t worry too much, if you enjoy do it
People make a career out of that. Go for it mate!
I find them unnecessary
I think it's gay
Jag tycker du är bög Anna-Karin
Jag är bög
Oj, har du tagit upp det med en läkare?
Nej, det har jag inte gjort
Kanske är dags nu då
Det är dags nu
i think instagram is great

you wanna explain what you're laughing at?
Whores
Gross
@bill_towers because I'm not attracted to Apes with 0 IQ?
it's very feminine
clean shaven guys, oiled up taking selfies is not masculine
I don't think you read the whole question
Because you oil up your entire body and shave your entire body when you're only gonna do a 200kg sumo deadlift... Smh...
