Why do so many people have bad form at the gym? 😂?

I voted for C because both types of those people are at my current gym, and some people are a combination of the 2 options. But in most cases, it seems like the people who are getting into fitness are only doing it for aesthetics or the wrong reasons. I mean it's not a problem but the thing is they're very impatient about it, they just want results ASAP, but at the same time don't want to put in the effort to learn or start with lower amount of weight and especially when they see seasoned lifters using a lot more weight than them, they want to use that amount too, so they try to rush their way up with bad form even more.
When things gets hard, and they feel doing research is too troublesome, they start to cut range of motion for each rep, they start to swing and flail dumbbells while rocking their torso back and forth, when they do lat pull downs or seated cable rows, they start forcefully lean all the way back and yanking on the cable attachment with a rounded upper back, they start to make excuses to justify why they have to do it that way. In the end they end up as one of the many idiotic gym bros with cringey form.
No one showed them how to lift properly though it's not exactly hard to find out, there are tons of websites out there that show proper usage of form for pretty much every exercise you could want.
I decided to become a personal trainer years ago and learn perfect form for virtually every exercise. So I got to help a lot of people with that when I was training folks hopefully they didn't slack off and still use proper form.
I guess no one told these people with bad form that the right amount of weight, pacing and perfect form actually builds more muscle properly then slinging around overly heavy weight mindlessly will especially if using bad form which will increase your risk of injury quite a bit.
The only other explanation to why they have bad form is because they do cross fitness.
i had to take a dump in that 275lb squat so it wasn't a smooth as most of my squats are (i usually pause)

@Mistnigqa808 My man your back !
Your form isn't bad overall, your bar is leaning a tad though but overall good form.
on the 225lb or 275? ^_^
LMAO oh shit you're talking about the 225lbs? IF SO I FUCKING AGREE AND I HATE THE SQUAT RACK WE HAVE AT THE JOB, like it's too short for me when it comes to the front squat, but for the back squat it's perfect.
But when i clean the weight up and then set up the lift yeah... it's damn near perfect >_<
@Mistnigqa808 Lol yeah I'm talking about the second video.
And yeah that sucks big time and well that's good at least.
They're too lazy/weak to use the correct form.
No one has ever offered to correct them (they'd rather make fun of them).
Some people just dont read directions.
C
As people progress many do get better in thier form
Been hiting the gym since 16 and let me say Im still learning something new ever flipping day.

Because they are in a hurry, or never had a decent trainer (for at least a few sessions) or both.
PS- I know my form goes to heck when I'm in a hurry or can't focus for whatever reason.
1. They are new because of a New Years resolution so they don't know what they are doing.
2. The people that work at the gym don't show people how to do things.
3. They are so concerned with looking cool by lifting a lot of weight, they pick more than they can actually lift.
4. They make the mistake of thinking power lifting is actually better than doing more reps with less weight when it is not as good in reality. They often make that mistake because that is what most gym employees tell people to do.
Low reps and high weight is generally the way to go though. Its been shown thats the best way to boost testosterone, and thus gain muscle. Its not the ONLY way to build muscle and obviously there are some exercises like lateral raises and good-mornings that you shouldn't go really heavy on. However, as a general rule, low reps high weight is a good thing.
@DWD94 That's what I've always heard from the people that are not as strong as I am. Lots of reps gets your muscles denser over time so someone with larger arms that did high weight and low reps wouldn't be as strong as someone with slightly smaller arms that did lots of reps and lower weight.
The guys working for gyms always say it the way you did, but somehow I am still stronger than them by doing it my way.
Plus high weight and low reps gets people muscle bound. that doesn't mean too much muscle, it means stiff, slow moving muscle.
Multiple reasons
1. Lack of good or any coaching
2. Lack of Knowledge-It takes a lot of time and a lot of mistakes to actually improve.
3. Lack of ability- some people are just not able to use proper form in some exercises due to lack of mobility. An example would be deep squats, for many people they are just physically impossible.
4. Crossfit.
They don't know any better and you can't tell them shit. I used to try to help, and occasionally I still do; mostly to remind myself of why I don't. For the most part now, I just laugh and go back to lifting. They'll injure themselves soon enough and be out of everyone's way.
Many do not know what they are doing. I admit that is one of my biggest insecurities at the gym. Many guys hate it when women correct their form, but I personally do not mind if she knows what she is doing and if she is not doing it in a manner to try to purposefully embarass me
You must not be 20 yet. Once you reach the next maturity level, you stop worry about other people's flaws and worry about your own. This in turn helps you focus on your problems and fix them (as it is the only problems you have 100% control over). You cannot fix other's shit form... only your own. I mean, I'm sure you felt stupid once or twice when you tried to do a Overhead Press for the first time (that one still gets me to this day... Loving what it does to my shoulders though.)
Probably the majority is just bad form and lack of knowledge. Sometimes what looks like ego lifting is a genuine type of training though. For some motions where it's safe, a bit of momentum on the concentric to allow a heavier weight to be lifted than strict can actually be very effective as a form of eccentric overload (using momentum to handle more resistance on the concentric to then use strict form on the eccentric where we're generally stronger). A prime example is the cheat curl.
Thatโs why I try to stick to the weight machines because they have a picture of what you are supposed to be doing. Someday I will look at videos and expand my excercises but I am not really looking to be a body builder, I just want to be toned alittle bit.
I think there is a tendency to get into psyche competitions ever so gradually and then lose form. Too many mental issues hang at the gym and so I built my own private gym with all the machines and weights I need. Unfortunately, when I travel I have to workout in gyms so I just go at 3am to avoid the idiots.
As someone who started working out just months ago, I gotta say its kind of both. For example, I glanced on how to do a certain type of exercise and someone informed me that my form was wrong while I was doing it. He pointed out that my back should be straight and that the weight was probably too heavy for me. I was also a little bit concerned what others would think because I can only lift at a lower weight than them.
Now, after working out for a while, I don't care what people think of me at the gym. I know most gym-goers are just minding their own business and getting some reps in. I'm going to emphasize "most" due to your patronization of these people. Instead of poking fun at lifters with bad form on the internet, I suggest you should actually find a solution, not a stimulus for them to be anymore insecure. Maybe you can teach them how to do the exercises correctly, then it won't cause you to "cringe" as much.
I don't see that many ego lifters at my gym and most people have decent form. However there are a few.
I have more of a problem with people not putting their weights away after they're done. Or people that's lifting weights and purposely making a lot of noise and dropping weights.
Like if you're going for a new pr I get it the weights heavy. But when you're making a ton of noise and dropping weights on every set starting from your warm up that gets pretty annoying.
There's no such thing as a right form what we call "right form" is just an international standard of movement for competitions. Truth is there is no official way to move your body for squats that would be ridiculous it's like saying humans are supposed to walk backwards not forwards thats the right form for walking not it isn't forwards backwards side to side you name it. Squats are the same do whatever you want. Unless it's like the picture above it's fine.
I see this with guys all the time😂 I've even had them try to be cute and give me lifting techniques like bro, no! Im a certified pt, i actually know what im doing!!😂
I think some guys/girls just don't know what they are doing but you gotta give them an a for effort :)
I'd say what I see more of it people lifting too little weight, they'll pick something up and do like 2 reps a second and 30 reps. If you're lifting the right amount you shouldn't be able to do that! I don't pay attention to how much people are lifting because I don't care, but it's pretty obvious when it isn't even close to the right amount
Lots of people are misinformed. Oftentimes I see men who are bigger perform a shitty lift and then recommend "their better form" to other guys. Shocks me how lots can willingly accept it without caring to look into it.
Yeah, it's a combination of the first two reasons of the poll options.
Most people who do to the gym donโt balence there diet and donโt work out regularly if you work out regularly rather than niece or twice a week you will be in better shape along with healthier eating
"Poor form in the gym is caused by insufficient yelling." - Mark Rippetoe
Probably for just like you said, there are a bunch of people who think they know what they are doing, but really don't have a clue!
Probably a lack of know-how or training combined with foolish pride that's preventing them from asking for proper advice.
These people simply didnโt do the proper research to know how to properly lift.
Kez most guys that go to the gym have mental health problems and are very insecure most of them don't have a job to go to so they hang out at the gym and start talking about other people its so sad that's the way they live and most of them are knowing to the police
I never been to a gym since gym class in high school.
I dont know why but I know for sure them deadliftin 140kg is gonna break their back faster than 200kg is gonna break mine.
I see personal trainers that dont have a clue when it comes to any technical lifts, such as the squat or deadlift or the oly lifts. My sister had a personal trainer who told her not to eat after 6pm, so they can be sometimes clueless about everything
Intermittent fasting is great i also intermittent fast, but her personal training was telling her as long as you dont eat after 6pm, you won't put on weight. He didn't even mention the term intermittent fasting
Intermittent fasting is great, with lots of benefits, but do you not think total calories matter the most?
The fact that you actually pay attention to them and notice them, then spend time thinking and writing about them is pretty sad.
They usually don't know what they're doing. Sometimes their ego is too big for them to ask for help.
I agree, but I agree and carry on. You could demonstraight the correct and safe way and moments later they will go back to their 'form'. It's their joint. Let them suffer.
For me personally, I just struggle with the right form in many exercises or I'm just tired! xD
They feel they need to get a better shape. Sounds logical does it not?
They just don't realize it. It's hard when not looking in the mirror. 💙😇
yeah you're probably that edgy girl at the gym who just uses the running machine for 30mins sweating and then leave.
Most schools don't even have Physical Education anymore to teach proper exercise form.
Well, it's really A and B. They are arrogant, stubborn as mules and dont know what they are doing.
Most people dont know what they are doing
So they look the same everyday lol
Do you tell them their form is wrong?
Give them some tips, it could help avoid serious injuries or just talk shit online, its up to you.
Cuz they haven't been taught the correct way. Lots of amateurs and noobs. ;)
Myself personally i notice my form slipping when I'm trying to push past my limits with a higher weight than my body is used to handling because my mind is more focused on the weight than form.
Honestly I lift at home in the basement and I do cardio (jogging), basketball & swimming in the gym.
I donโt go to the gym. I get all my exercise in bed.
Because my ego won't survive if the hot girl next to me lifts heavier weights😔
They don't know what their doing
Shit genes, sweetheart. Check your biological privilege
When they look at your ass their dick will have good form inside your holes
They want to become john cena from the 1st day 🤣
Novices, lifting too heavy, muscle fatigue
There not experienced
I doubt you know what good form is.
Either one or both could be the case.
This question is bad form.
That's why I work out at alone.
