Squats might be more thigh heavy, but that doesn't mean they don't also work the glutes. Behind hip thrusts, and next to deadlifts squats are the best glute exercise. There are also many variations of squat that change which muscles they predominantly use.
squats will also tone and give definition to your thighs/quad muscles but it won't make you bigger.
Because this got MHO. I feel obligated to inform you all, this is bullshit. The glutes are muscle just like every other. They absolutely do grow when you progressively overload them with heavy exercise just like every other muscle. And because they're such a vital muscle to the human anatomy, they will readily grow even more than most other muscle. You get "tone and definition" by lowering your bodyfat percentile. Squats, are not gonna do much there. The beat ways to get "tone and definition" are through your eating habits, and cardiovascular exercises. You need to be consuming fewer calories than you're burning in a day. Squats are useful for building muscle, not losing fat.
@Torari oh goodie health advice from a fucking 21 year old. listen kid I been weight lifting when you were still in diapers so I know a thing or two about weight training. all weight lifting does NOT build muscle it merely sculps and adds definition NOTHING more. The only reason you see people get bigger muscles is when they eat more and consume more calories making them gain more muscle and body fat which I stated earlier about putting more weight on since you're to damn dumb and clearly fucking illiterate to know how to read. And losing body fat helps tone the muscles more showing more definition in them. And when you do weight lifting of any kind all you're doing is building up your tolerance for higher weights much like drug addicts build up their tolerance hence needing higher doses for their fix. But with weight lifting you can only lift so much given your weight if you want to lift more you need to put weight on to lift heavier weights. But I wouldn't expect you to understand that simple concept junior
@Torari and there's no real way of measuring someone's true amount of body fat with great or decent accuracy unless the person is dead and an autopsy is done on them
@Torari and as far as that progressive overload bullshit quit believing everything you hear because most of that nonsense are coming from a bunch of steroid junkies instead of nattie's/natty's which those freak of natures won't tell you. and what they won't tell you is how they'll be stuck taking t-boosters for the rest of their lives otherwise they could either become like women with very low t or they could die since they're bodies will be producing so much estrogen when they come off that junk. so junior don't believe everything you see in the health industry because a lot of it is one big fat fucking lie to promote their advertising health misinformation crap
@Torari and if you really did know anything about the amount of pure bullshit that's in the health and fitness industry then you'll also know about how stacking works and how to cycle when stacking and what kind of t-boosters there are and how they're injected and how often a day they're taken and how much they cost which is why most body builders blow their winnings at competition on that crap and on the shitty gym memberships hoping to get famous in the long run.
Go lift weights. You clearly have a complete and utter lack of understanding regarding the very basics of human anatomy. The scientifically proven fact is that muscles need a stimulus to grow in size and strength (which are linked). That stimulus, must be high resistance, the kind only available through a progressive overload. You have to break down to high power muscle cells with a high load, so that the body has a reason to build them back bigger and stronger. If you just eat, you get fat. You don't get muscular. Progressive overload coupled with adequate nutrition makes muscles bigger. This is a scientific fact no amount of your "experience" will change. Just because you always trained like a pussy and never gained muscle as a result, doesn't mean training doesn't grow muscle as you claim. You really think someone line arnold schwarzenegger was born with all that muscle? And don't try crying "ooh but muh steroids". All steroids do os increase your natural capacity, they do not add capacities that where not there. I have personally proven this by gaining 17kg of muscle, though progressive overload training since i was just a teen. There are actually 2 ways of measuring bodyfat with a good degree of accuracy. 1. MRI is 99.9% accurate, this is scientific fact. 2. Eyes, the human body shows a significant visual change with changes in bodyfat levels. And by the way, calling a 21y man a "kid" proves absolutely nothing other than the fact that your insecure in your argument and thus feel the need to devalue my input based on an arbitrary factor without knowing anything about me.I'll have you know, i'm a certified personal trainer, and currently studying for my masters in kinesiology (the science of exercise). I am without a shadow of a doubt, more qualified than some old fuck who thinks 40 years of bro science is worth shit.
Heck, you don't even necessarily need a caloric surplus for muscle growth. The human body is absolutely capable of converting fat stores into muscle fibers. All you need for muscle growth is a little excess fat (14% is fine for men, 21% for women), and a positive nitrogen balance, which you get through eating protein. As long as you're not in an overwhelming deficit, where the body is converting all the fat it can to energy (generally 300-500 calorie deficit), you can build muscle while losing fat.
@Torari you really are a dumb fuck if you believe in that muscle overload bs crap. It's called ripping or microtearing the muscle tissues so they repair and regrow themselves back that's how it get's bigger. And it only gets bigger by an 1" maybe 1.5" at the most. Unless you put more weight on you won't get bigger and you won't be able to lift heavier weights
@Torari and show me links or sources that say mri measures body fat because I would love to see that crock of horseshit you're spewing. and no fucking instrument in the world will show you 99% accuracy in body fat regardless of what your delusional mind says
@Torari omfg you really are dumb if you think you can turn fat into muscle!!! you can only shrink fat cells you dumb fuck you can't turn fat into muscle. jesus Christ if you claim you're getting your degree in kinesiology then you better ask for a damn refund because you clearly don't know wtf you're talking about. And just for the record 14% on men is still high and not low enough to see abs or be toned. 14% and 15% and 16 and 17% are average not toned or defined. jesus Christ you better get your damn money back on whatever fucked up school taught you all that horse shit. And just another tidbit junior it's a surplus of 500 calories or a deficit of 500 calories to either gain or lose weight
@Torari and another bit of info junior eyes don't do much in terms of measuring body fat. you need calipers for that or in one of those specialized machines which cost a fortune and i'm to damn lazy to look up the names of them but each body builder both natty and steroid freaks are required to use them before each competition so the judges know where they stand body fat percentage wise as well as their trainers.
@Torari they can even use the body fat analyzers machines while being submerged under water for better accuracy but again i'm to damn lazy to look up the friggin name of the machines they use. And for the average joe smo at home he can use either a scale which says his/her body fat but only reads from the feet up to your ass cheeks or he/she can use a hand held body fat analyzer which measures from the chest arms down to the waiste and stomach right above the ass cheeks
@Torari and no steroids don't allow you to do shit to capacity what they do is make you damn hungry all the time so you eat more putting on more weight so you lift more and making you more aggressive by raising your testosterone and estrogren which is why estrogen suppressors are also stacked with t-boosters. and all steroids does is makes you build up water and fluid in the body making you get bigger which is why a lot of athletes who are on that crap have a lot of built up water weight and need to up their potassium intake before a competition to piss out all that water so their abs and veins show more to impress the judges during a competition
@Torari you really have a lot to learn about how fucked up the body building world is junior
Get off the internet. Your misinformation is dangerous.
@Torari FUCK OFF

Finally, someone who actually has a clue what they're talking about. So many people here are assuming that glutes won't grow when you use them for heavy lifting.
@Torari oh they definitely will grow lol I'm living proof
Are ur boobs equally good?
No. They don't. "toning" is just a matter of losing bodyfat, squats are a very bad way to burn fat. You'd get more toned jogging every day. Assuming you're not eating line a whale.Squatting in fact, makes your butt bigger, it causes those muscles to grow.
