Sometimes there are legitimate reasons, but more times it is like, not so much.
I think I have heard every excuse under the sun but maybe I am wrong so share the excuses you have heard... or are they real reasons?
... just wondering? :)
From the perspective of a guy who's labelled "obese"...
I'm 6' tall and 220lbs. My BMI says I'm obese and I should weigh around 160lbs.
In 2020 I dropped to around that that to a 3 month coma. I looked worse than the Walking Dead zombies. Bones sticking out everywhere and Arms and legs too thin to lift what was left of me. But my BMI was "ideal weight"
It's taken 18 months to get back to the 52" chest, 38" waist I had before plus learning to walk again. I need to join a gym to recover my old strength but it's a start.
Forget numbers. BMI will tell you Dwayne Johnson is obese.
Get healthy. The only thing to look at is body fat percentage. Don't stress over total cholesterol, look at your ratio of good to bad.
If your lover is cool with how you look, give them the cuffs and blindfold and let them have fun 😉
My wife says she got fat because it runs in her family.
Nobody runs in her family.
OMG! ... you are a comedian for real... I love that! ... lol
GOLD STAR REPLY!
i remember when i walked my 5 year old brother into pre-school and there was this kid who was picking on him and he said, "ew your fat, you need to loose weight." and my brother shrugged and said, "no i'm good, loosing weight is for girls." i was just like, "damn little bro, you told him." lmao, so apparently he thought he didn't need to loose weight because thats for girls to worry about, not boys.
That is so true because girls do care more about it.
Smart young lad, he's right about that :)
lol.
I really hate the “big-boned” excuse. Like, what does that even mean?
I know huh? ... and I hear that one a lot
I think the real reason is, it takes self-control to push away from the table sometimes, especially if you are always eating your favorite foods, so if you have an excuse, then in your mind you don't have to worry about it so much... am I right? :)

I used to run fitness channels and I heard a lot. One of the ones that bugged me though is that a woman said to me that she tried intermittent fasting and lost her period.
She was maybe 300+ lbs. That was probably true in a sense but I have to question what she was eating in her time window since I always encouraged a pragmatic approach with balanced macros and comprehensive micros, and even erring on the side of too many calories than too little.
But that really bugged me. Her time window wasn't even narrow. It was 6 hours of eating in a day. Are women this fragile?
That said, I heard many reasons and some might sound worst. But what bugged me about that one is that it sounded too legit, but not at the same time. I also suggested many alternatives, and she kept saying it made her lose her period. Keto makes her lose her period. IF makes her lose her period. Exercise makes her lose her period. Everything makes her lose her period!
But I got inspired to try to help people, even lacking the proper expertise (not a certified nutritionist, or PE, or physician) watching that Biggest Loser show. At first, I was so excited seeing the contestants lose weight and then horrified later to find out most regained the weight after the show and that they were subject to the strictest caloric restrictions (ex: 1200kcal/day), and trained to the point of torture... So maybe I was kinda jaded and lacking much better ways to try to do good for the world but I made a fitness channel as an amateur, introducing myself as an amateur, but with a very pragmatic and slow-paced way to lose fat. But after a while, as my channel gained popularity, I just found I'm at a loss how to help certain people. I wanted to help them but I don't know how anymore. They kept giving me reasons why my suggestions won't work until I was out of suggestions.
Shows like "The Biggest Loser" are criminally negligent quackery. The long-term results speak volumes.
@DryGermanGuy I got some kind of depression from it when I found out how bad it was in the long run. I think I was misguided lacking the expertise but I wanted to promote like a "fuck it!" way of losing weight... not "fuck it!" too much but trying to promote the idea that we don't have to lose it by next summer, and it's just one step at a time. Every little step. And even if the scale doesn't move, there are still steps being made if we like little changes we made in our lifestyle, if we feel good, things like that. I was trying to come at it from a good place even though I started to realize I lack the expertise. I still feel bad even about that one woman who kept saying all my suggestions don't work. She worked at a farm and was so overweight and she seemed so good-natured. But I ran outta ideas on how to help her and people like her and I felt very irresponsible and stupid with my channel.
Many people do not understand that diets for obese people don't work. They assume, they get thin and healthy quickly with some absurd crash diet (wrong) and then can happily get back to their old lifestyle (wrong again). It's that lifestyle that got them fat in the first place, so that needs to be changed, long-term! Once they adopt a more sensible lifestyle, they start losing 4-5kg/month (later 2-3kg) without any fanaticism.
For the typical American, giving up 90% of their fast food and sugar-water would already do pretty much everything they need.
@DryGermanGuy I think that was kind of the message I was at least trying to promote. I even offered weaning strategies like if someone likes to put a lot of sugar in their coffee/tea, maybe try cutting it by a third or half, then try that for a couple of weeks and get comfy with it and iterate again. Most of all I wanted to promote an iterative approach to it. Like we don't have to cut out everything we love overnight or start training like Olympians from day one. I was mostly trying to encourage a turtle paced way, but with the idea that the turtle can beat the rabbit in a long-term race.
You may not have periods but not from normal fasting. More likely from anorexia or bulimia. Also thyroid problems will derail your periods. Some women just like making excuses for overeating.
I told my boss at one point, that if the company would mandate paid exercise we would all lose weight and the healthcare premiums would go down. I mean theoretically we'd all be healthier right?
The company has a onsite gym when we are in the office, said 1 hour a day of on the job required working out. They have a trainer that comes in a couple days of the week to help to.
Right now all of that is done after hours on our time, but most people are too busy, especially when working a lot of over time. Who wants to be in the building for 10 to 12 hours and then stick around to work out for another hour?
My excuse is I'm salary and often put in many long days, sometimes from 6 am to 11pm, no time in there to fit in exercise of any kind, except when I'm on vacation. While that is not typical, a typical day can still be 7 am to 7 pm and I'm old so my bed time is 8:30 pm.
What I need is a exercise program I can do while sleeping.
The excuses I've told myself are either not having the time or being depressed. I have the time and even some level of desire to lose the weight, but then I think "What is the point when I could just gain the weight and let it take me out of my misery?". I am not suicidal by any means, but I do not really care if I live either. Every time I've lost weight, it was only because a goal dear to my heart required it, not because I genuinely care about my health. It is hard to admit this, but even as I write this I still feel this way.
As someone who can't put on weight, I've had friends where we do the exact same thing together, eat the same foods, exercise and do sports or fun things together and yet I can't put on weight but they would.
Genetics maybe? I don't know but the most common reason I hear is just not enough time, especially for those working 60+ hours a week, all they do is work and no time for anything but work and sleep.
I wouldn't consider a thyroid issue a crazy reason. There are thyroid conditions that don't respond to treatments or maybe they can't afford the treatments.
Maybe so.
I am really referring to people who just say that and use it for an excuse when it really isn't true.
No, you are above average intelligence I can tell.
You must have a very high IQ.
No need to be so modest, but I like it :)
See, there you go again showing off how smart you are... lol
"I am traditionally built. Not one of those skinny, modern girls." - M'ma Ramotswe from The Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.
The most ridiculous reason I've heard? "I wanna remain fat because I wanna remain undesirable."
Amazing!
That was her way of shutting us up but we know she truly dreams of losing weight. She has very weak self control but refuses help. We hear from mutual friends that she's depressed for being lonely & alone.
My father was diabetic and he had to have daily insulin injections. If he would have lost 20 pounds he could stop with the injections but he felt that giving himself the shot every day gave him the right to eat anything he wanted.
It's baby fat. Like woman! You had that baby 8 years ago and you didn't weigh nearly as much as you do now. I honestly think if you were losing weight after having the baby it's not the baby's problem at that point it a lack of effort on your part.
Yes, good one! :)
I chose D-Big Boned and what some women call "Fun-Sized".
A-Thyroid is a close second choice, but that's not a crazy reason, it's a real one.
Big bones is a real reason. I don't know if you’ve ever seen some people with anorexia and big bones. You can tell they’re very skinny but their bones make it look like they’re not.
The skellitiall system doens't verry that much hun
@Subarugirl god I wish people would stop calling me hun. Please, learn how to spell also.

"I don't know why I'm not losing weight, I changed my diet!"
Meanwhile, the diet change still consists of calories way above their BMR
The one I hear most often is " ... if I lose weight, my tits will shrink because they're mostly fat, and guys love my tits. That's why I attract guys now, so why would I want to lose weight?"
Her boobs will lose some but not as much as they think. I'm sure a guy would rather have a live woman than big tits in this case because being obese will shorten your life span. Heart attacks are the #1 cause of death in women, even over cancer.
@Daniela1982 I'd rather have a fit woman or slightly overweight, in good health, regardless of how big her tits were! I just don't care about big tits or a really big ass. :)
You forgot to mention she must have long nails - or long screws.
@Daniela1982 Hehe. Only if they're natural, but you know, it's not a deal breaker if she doesn't, but nice hands and feet are always nice too! LOL Everyone has their turn-ons, hmm?>
Taht's why I said long screws, as in long sex.
@Daniela1982 Indeed we do!
Being a porker is now super cool and fat shaming is a federal crime.
Only if it's a women, for some reason fat old men seem to have a lot of opinions about other people's body for someone who can't even see their own dick with out a mirror.
@Subarugirl Yeah, that's true.
Last time I matched my BMI, everyone commented on how gaunt I looked in the face... still had my belly so it isn't really my weight which is an issue.
I like what Dennis Leary said about people who said they were big-boned: "Dinosaurs were big-boned. You're big-assed."
"big bone" is so funny lmao. We can understand the difference between "big bone" and fatness.
I’ve heard a lot of these. It’s hard to pick which is the craziest.
I am addicted to carbs. I have to treat carbs like crack or heroin. I don't want to die.
Most blame it on their family gene's
