My mother was a nudist sun worshipper and influenced me as a child and teenager.

I always thought it was normal to slather baby oil on and try to make my skin golden brown

As I got older, I ended up working as a woodland firefighter, where I worked for years, many back to back 16 hour shifts for the entire summer. I got more than enough sun, and it was standard practice to regularly apply sunblock (SPF 30+) and wear full long sleeve shirts, long pants, and a helmet with a neck shroud (intended more for flame protection but often used to keep the sun off).
Since tans simply fade and my skin returns to its natural tone unless I'm actively tanning and maintaining it, I stopped focusing on tanning and maintaining it. As a waste of time, and also as a danger to my skin, and also out of "long term vanity" knowing that years and years of tanning takes its toll.

Now I use sunblock religiously. If I anticipate being in the sun for more than 15 minutes, I will apply sunblock to exposed areas. When I go on outings, I consider sun protection. For example, when sailing or boating, I tend to choose a long sleeve polypropylene shirt, which will protect my skin while I keep relatively cool. I'm actually still a nudist and would love to be naked more, but I also want to keep my skin protected.
I'm living in the tropics. Inevitably, my exposed skin has a protective tan.
I rarely wear short trousers, which also helps.
Only on a sailboat race (which- for covid reasons- didn't happen often in the past 2 years) I'd put on some extra sun screen.
I don't SEEK the sun - but I also don't avoid it.
Same with me. I don't try to seek it but it is inevitable. In those cases, sunscreen and sometimes on of those bigger hats that gives extra shade if I'm on the beach or something.
Thanks for the reply!
I see by your profile that you live in Antarctica. Sun is harsh there. Be safe :D
Yes. 😂 It isn't the sun exposure that will get you here.
Aaaaah ha :)
Living in California where temps can go up to 100 or more in the summer I try to stay inside on those days. If I work outside or go to the beach I make sure I have a good level of sun block on and a straw hat. I may look funny but I won't be the one having rubbery skin from sun damage or skin cancer when I get older.

I'm the same as even though my skin won't really burn, I still where sunscreen and one of those big hats on a beach holiday. We have similar temps here. Thanks for the reply. 👍
Big hat, covered in sunscreen and under the umbrella. I am not dark complected but I do have tan lines and a little color. My husband loves my lightly colored skin and white bikini lines when he sees me naked at home.
Good that you do what you can for protection. Thanks for the reply!
That's terrible at such a young age. I'm pleasantly surprised at the answers I am getting that most do try and protect their skin. Obviously, from your friends' experiences, a wise decision.
Sorry to hear they had to go through that.

I might be a bit reckless but I don't bother with sunscreen. I almost never get burnt; my complexion seems to largely resist it. I never sunbathe though. I just go out and do things and get a tan inadvertently.
Thanks for the reply. So long as actively not trying probably going to be okay. I'm largely resistant to the sun as well but still do put protection on. That is the "doctor for a father" speaking.
I'm kind of a lunatic so I go mostly natural: deodorant and soap! :-D The health risks don't make it to my brain when people around me think I should put on sunscreen. The stupid side that thinks I should be able to survive in sunlight without being so protected from it takes over.
I'm also like this in the winter and since I was a kid. People will say, "Put on your coat! It's freezing outside." I don't wanna! I will just grow stronger and build up a resistance to the cold or die trying! :-D
Throw caution to the wind...😂
That's my whole life philosophy and often to my own detriment. :-D
Personally when I want to tan, I still put on sunscreen and then reapply just as I feel like I’m about to get burnt because sunscreen doesn’t stop tanning from occurring it just helps block the uv rays. I also use sunscreen that is at least spf 50 and broad spectrum. A cap can be super useful when tanning too. Oh and sunnies are also a must along with applying face sunscreen everyday even if I’m at home most of the day!
Even though I was quite pale and burned easily when I was younger I tan very well and am naturally very golden tan from being outdoors and in the sun a lot. I have natural pure platinum blonde very shiny healthy hair longer than I am tall and the bluest lightest brightest eyes.
i dont really burn but i never try to get tans either
if i get one i get one but i dont actively try to
Good policy. Thanks for the reply. 👍
I have to have some sort of protection like sunscreen because Im white and Ill get really damn red if I stay in the sun for long periods of time. Otherwise I dont use anything when just doing random things outside for a little bit.
I don't really have an issue with getting sunburn but still use protection. I also prefer under the umbrella at the beach. Thanks for the reply.
I never put on sunscreen and I try to stay out of the sun unless I'm working in it but I don't burn in the sun... And I don't know if u know your profile pic is blank just letting u know it's cool either way something different lol
I'm similar in that I don't really burn. I still do what I can. Good policy to just stay out of the sun when you can.
Yes, the blank profile was intentional. It looks cool in my opinion. If I could just get rid of the drab 'u' badge somehow.
If I'm spending a while outside during thr summer, like a hike or something, I'll always put on an apply once sun block and wear a hat, skin cancer is no joke.
Indeed it isn't a joke. Why I asked the question. I wanted to see how many did anything about it. I'm pleasantly surprised most take it serious.
Sunscreen, baseball cap, long sleeve shirt and loose fitting pants, and maybe a recliner under an umbrella. I burn very easily so I do my best to cover up while still enjoying the beach.
Yep, all good ideas. I use just about the same stuff and I don't burn. Still do my best to protect myself. Unless I am in the water, I like the shade on the beach. Just so hot anyhow. Thanks for the reply.
I’ll wear a big floppy hat and higher SPF sunscreen at the beach. For tanning, I use a lower SPF and lay out by my pool.
Yep! Love a big floppy hat. Thanks for the reply. 😊
Don't I know it! I have a few, depending on what I'm wearing. 👍
👒 👈 that's the best emoji I have. 😐
I have never been much of a sun worshiper. Maybe that is why I look younger than my true age. So my answer is, I stay out of the 🌞 sun.
Fair enough! 👍
My skin is perfect because I stopped doing that as a teenager. Mom says your skin will wrinkle and crinkle in the hot sun. You will pay for it someday when older. Moisturize and if you beach it, Wear sunscreen and a big hat (Could still though get sun cancer) and also put up an umbrella. It is fine to run in the sun, walk or just do things that is not so stationary to get some sun but a lot is no good for you.
Moisturize daily with a good cream, too.
It's best to stay in the shade you get enough ambient sun that way. What many people don't realize is that skin doesn't forget. Those overhyped suntans are a guarantee for fast aging skin and many brown spots and skin aberrations that will inevitably appear. Our ozone layer is too weak by now to allow for direct exposure - and I'm not talking about New Zealand or Australia now.
I always wear sunscreens with SPF at least 50 to the whole of my body. But for face I pay more attention and avoid any direct exposure to sunlight by using hats, big sunglasses, umbrellas and …..
If sunburn occurs, I apply after sun cream quickly and frequently to relief my burnt skin
I don't burn, honestly. I just get darker than normal.
I'm much the same. I don't really burn. I still use what protection I can. That is the doctor as a father speaking in my subconscious. 😐
I mean, I wear one of my baseball hats during the summer if I am outside, otherwise I just let the sun do its thing. Mostly get hit around elbow down and knee down. Wicked tanlines.
I don't I worked outdoors my entire life and I never cover up my skin, wear sun screen or any junk.
Chemical companies have people brainwashed into believing that they need it to prevent skin cancer
What they are doing is making money off your stupid ass
So, you believe skin cancer is not dangerous and shouldn’t be prevented?
Also, did you just call me a stupid ass?
The chemical companies that make them Lotions, creams and what else. They what give you skin cancer.
All your doing is making them money while they are poisoning you slowly.
Just research the ingredients and look at the side effects.
Maybe if you did. You might change your mind on putting that crap on your skin.
I recommend stop using it.
Skin cancer is man made though chemicals.
Answer my second question please. You conveniently ignored that.
I not calling you as one a person a stupid ass, but as a whole bunch of people who fall for the chemical companies lies a stupid ass.
As a group
Typo error
When I said "I don't I worked outdoors my entire life"
I meant to say I do work outside my entire life. I am a farmer
@PrettyPriya There were cases of benzene discovered in sunblock, which can lead to blood cancer. These products were removed from market and reformulated. Mineral sunblock is generally safer than chemical sunblock
( reference : www.health.harvard.edu/.../sunscreen-makers-withdraw-products-found-to-contain-cancer-causing-substance
and

There is no question, despite any anecdotal arguments to the contrary, that sun exposure has a direct positive correlation to melanoma incidence. (reference: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/.../...0960.1997.tb01000.x )
I use sunscreen, wear a baseball hat and usually keep my shirt on unless I go in the water.
All good protection. My SO has found these UV protective t-shirts for himself for holiday when not in the water. First I have seen them but a good idea.
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, that stuff doesn't show up until many years later and are usually the results of getting sun burned earlier in life. These girls who get these deep tans for their vanity are the ones who will be getting wrinkled skin in their 40's, and melanomas at any time.
Unless your eye brows got singed off they knew you were fibbing.
I do not go out much in the sunlight in the first place, but if I do...

100% protect my skin! A tan is NOT worth the risk of skin cancer and the damage long term of what it does to you!
It’s just horrific and scary!
Avoid it during the heat of the day, otherwise sunscreen and a large brimmed hat.
Tell me it is like one of the cute, girlie (large brimmed) floppy hats I would wear.
Sunscreen, but I intend to get a tan. I will also wear sun shirts and hats if the sun is too much. I burn easily.
My SO just discovered the sun shirts. I think we are talking the same thing. They offer UV protection.
yes, they're usually breathable, made out of nylon/lycra.

Nice! Thanks. 👍
When out, I wear sunscreen, and a baseball hat, (if I have one) Most of the time out at Dana Point, I am not out that long, just run the beach and back in.
I tan naturally, so I don't get too burnt. But I do pay attention to how much exposure I get.
Ah, so you are lucky like some. I'm kind of the same. Don't really burn. I do put sunscreen on however.
Yes, I use it too sometimes. The Sun can be very brutal on ones skin.
Yep, why I asked. Curious how many people take it serious and try to protect their health. Thanks for the replies. 😊
You're welcome Priya.
As for tomorrow it’s Sunday Funday & as for me I’m going to pack my cooler & go to the beach & I always pack & use sunscreen as well.
Sun lotion🧴 in fact wear it as a base under your make up all year long. Prevents premature aging 🙂 That’s for anyone with dark skin also!
I generally avoid direct sunlight. Prob wouldn't as much if I used sunscreen *shrugs*
I'm not all that different. Even on a beach holiday I prefer the shade. Just too hot anyhow. Thanks for the reply.
I always wear some kind of hat because I get sunburned pretty easily
Good on you to take precaution. Thanks for the reply!
What does it mean when ones says I don't really burn?
By the way, isn't sunscreen lotion enough?
Some people's skin complexion is as such they don't burn as much or at least not as susceptible. I always put lotion on but I wear one of those big floppy hats that gives me shade or sit under umbrella if on a beach holiday.
It is so hot anyway that I like the shade unless in the water.
Okay.
By the way, why did you switch your profile to private?
Too many annoying messages?
Yes, temporary measure. Had some "bi guy" related trolls spamming my inbox.
That's sad. I really like talking to you
It will be public again soon. Just making sure he doesn't make another attempt. Unlucky for him I have been freezing his accounts the second I see him. He is such a pain.
Damn dude
What is his argument?
His argument is most women are bisexual. He claims straight women sleep with women.
Just don’t appreciate he spamming his nonsense in my inbox.
Oh that argument 😂.
There's a female version of him which claims all men are gay
Yep, both equally as annoying. They seriously don’t quit either. No matter how many times their accounts get frozen, they come back. 🤦♀️
Yeah
Iy kinda burns thats why planning shou;d be time basis
Sun cream factor 15-25 and sun umbrella if I want to avoid longer sun exposure on the beach.
I'm always fully covered in summer! I love wetsuits on beaches! The sun is so bad for you!!
Well, I am black…LMAO
I recently found out that we also have to wear sunscreen…LOL
Now, I just spray some on, and I am good to go. 🥴
I have caught a bit of skin damage some years ago. I treated it and since then I use sunblock EVERYTIME I go to the beach which is every Saturday and Sunday
Hat but i dont try to tan i just be outside and it happens
I only get sun on my arms and neck, i wear a hat, and long pants
Sounds like you have protection though. I am surprised how many do make an effort to protect. I thought I was going to find a lot of people saying "I put oil on and burn". I am pleasantly surprised I should have said.
Big hat, big coat and generally avoid being outside during sunny periods.
I stay in the shade, I am not a farm worker, so I am not required to expose myself to the damaging Sun...
Sunblock mostly, sometimes with a floppy hat.
I'm fortunate that I don't really burn. However, I do put on protection even so. I'm a huge fan of the big floppy hat. Easier to spot me. 😬
I just get ignore it and get burned, though I suppose it I was in a situation where it was an actual problem I would wear clothing that protects me skin
Staying inside. lol
I’ll wear sunscreen if we go to the beach, though.
Wear sun protection. If go some beach where nude we spray each other to make protected.
For the 1st time for the year I would go without sun screen for about 10 minutes.
I try to wear long sleeves and long pants, black and wear sunscreen
Same way I do in the winter here in Florida, SPF!
Yep, me too. You'll find me under an umbrella or big floppy hat too if at the beach. 👍
O I barely do nothing but it is lol left fore the Melanin in me to do the hustle.
I set a timer on my phone.
Sunblock and covered spaces. I live at the beach but try to stay inside more because I rather have my skin age better with less wrinkles
I don't. I work out in the weather so I usually have a beautiful tan.
I am pretty hairy furry man so my hair protects me...
by the way that pic of smooth shiny leg is so erotic for me... too hot to handle TBH
🔥🥰❤️👠👠👠👠
I hide behind other peoples shadows
🤣🤣🤣
I don't go to the beach. When it's sunny 🌞.
Well, that certainly works then!
Yup, I like going in the afternoon or early morning. It's relaxing 😌
That is a good idea. Much cooler too. Thanks for the reply. 😊
I dont.. if I melt I melt..
Lol glad to see you haven't yet. 👍
@PrettyPriya would be fun to say Im melting... Im Melting...
Lol 😂
sunscreen, a hat, an unbrella, and a shirt
Yep, same here. Even though I don't tan/burn much still use that sort of stuff unless in the water. Thanks for the reply.
i put water proof sunscreen on. even though i don't tan either the skin ages rapidly each time you tan. it keeps me young forever
I never know if the waterproof stuff lasts as long as they say. How often do you reapply by the way?
every few hours
Got it, thanks for the replies.
For me it's melanin I don't burn
I don't really burn either but do try to protect myself if I can. Thanks for your reply!
Your so welcome
My skin usually protects itself
Sunscreen
I always do too, just in case. Thanks. 😊
I try to stay out of the sun or I cover up.
1. dont go out
Simple. Effective. 👍
I don't go out, if I don't have to
If I am going to be in the sun I will be tanning….
Get some sun, but too much ☀️☀️☀️🌅🌅🌅
