Real panic attack involves an imbalance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood. You can correct this by breathing in and out into a small paper bag for about twenty to forty five seconds while sitting down. It's important to sit down because the end state of a panic attack is sometimes fainting and if you faint while you were standing up you were likely to fall and injure yourself. It's better if you don't lie down but if you absolutely need to please don't lie down on your left side rather than in any other position since this is what's called the recovery position. If you happen to vomit while in this position and you are unconscious at least the vomit probably won't go in your lungs whereas if you're in any other position it is very likely to. You don't want that. Finally, if you are female you should talk to your doctor about possibly getting a cardiac ultrasound since in women some malformations of the mitral valve of the heart are known to cause or at least be correlated with panic attacks. This is not in and of itself dangerous but the panic attacks are very disconcerting and very disturbing to most people. Conversely, it's good to know that it's very easy to treat if that is in fact the underlying problem. Check with your doctor about all of this.

Get a full medical check up including lab checks for low iron, b12, thyroid, adrenals and hormone levels to make sure there isn't anything medical behind the anxiety attacks. Some people have a genetic predisposition for anxiety. You can try meds and/or natural ways like exercise, therapy, etc. Coping with them does get better with age but don't be shy about getting medical help.

A mixture of taking CBD oil daily and when one comes on having my wife distract me from getting into my own head by just talking to me. Anything that can basically just keep you from focusing on the subject helps.

Oh damn, I am so sorry that you have this problem. Honestly it takes a lot of self reflection and mental training and self discipline to learn how to chill out and address anxieties that are often rooted deep in your own insecurities.
So I suggest that you take some time to truly do serious and objective self reflection on yourself so you can become the best version of your self possible. I would say therapy can help, but it will not solve your problems if you can not be honest with your self and deep dive into yourself. A therapist can not do this for you, you have to do it for yourself... but having and impartial person like a therapist to vent and talk to without judgment, can be a very positive thing, and they can help keep you focused on the goal. But they can only take you so far, at some point you have to do it for yourself.Well @stormmistress First you have to understand what is happening to you.

You're having faith in negativity instead of having faith in positivity. Yet both require faith. This is simply a habit perhaps for you so to fix it you'd have to build the opposite habit. That's the only way to fix it permanently.

But I think you'd have to grow your awareness larger than it currently is to begin all of that.There are some tricks helping to deal with panic attacks, but I prefer the Buddhist philosophy, the same to deal with anger, sorrow and other violent emotions: just wait till it passes while contemplating that emotion in oneself (a form of meditation). Very difficult to explain, but effective. Breathing slowly and deeply helps of course. The idea behind the contemplation is as with storms: there's nothing to do, except waiting till it passes ;0)
try to identify what exactly you are scared about. try to pinpoint exactly what the panic is about. and then think about what you can do to prevent what you're scared about.

Give it a go!unpopular advice but i think these types of things happen to those who lack perspective in life. they haven't had much serious harm and so they get worked up over mild things happening in life. I don't do stupid stuff, so I don't suffer from panic attacks. So I don't regret my actions. Ie stay out of the loop. It gives you stabile calm environment.
I try to close my eyes and talk sense into myself while trying to tune out the sounds around me. I need to hear LOGIC to calm down. Once I realize it's not that scary it goes away.
I think you should go see a doctor about it. If you get it on the regular, you can get diagnosed and medication like xanax to help with your anxiety.

I have found that self validation helps, instead of trying to stop the panic all together saying stuff like "Its okay that I'm panicking" "Even though I'm panicing I am safe" along with deep breaths and other tools
