My little sis gonna get obesity surgery?

I have an obese 15 year old sister and she is 1.50 tall. Since she has diabetes, it is very difficult for her to lose weight, so my mother wants surgery for her. It won't be in the public hospital because they don't allow under the age of 18 but there is a problem... I am very afraid for my sister. So what if something happens to her? Have you ever heard of a 15-year-old child who had bariatric surgery? Is it more harmful to her because she is a child? ı'm very scared about her..

You say this is something your mother wants for your sister. If your sister doesn't want it, the result will be failure. It requires a total change in lifestyle. There are too many people who believe they can't change their lifestyle... or don't want to change their lifestyle. These people can gain all the weight they lose back.

Public hospitals aren't necessarily better than private ones. The key is to research the surgeon. Find out how experienced the surgeon is with the procedure, how many young people have received it from this surgeon and the results of those surgeries (long-term). Also check with your state board to see if charges have been brought against the surgeon. Primarily, this is your sister's decision to make.

Only medical doctors who have seen her can determine if it is appropriate for her. It depends on all her medical conditions, motivation, lifestyle and other factors. It is inappropriate to diagnosis someone who hasn't been seen by the person doing the diagnosis, so coming here can only give you areas to research, not whether the surgery is appropriate or not.

If there's a medical school around you, ask them. They may be willing to give a second opinion, even if they choose not to do the surgery.

We don't live in the city so we don't have any near öedical schools but i will try and go to some doctor and ask them

I know but like i said public hospital won't let her bc she is still a child... she still gonna get it on private hospital and they only care about money. so i have no one to ask for :(

Check out Obesityhelp. com. They have wads of info and even forums for chatting. It also depends on what type of bariatric surgery she is having. Some work better than others and each has their own pluses and minuses. As someone else has said, the surgery is just an aid in helping you lose weight by changing your lifestyle. You can certainly gain all that weight back if you don't.
