How many calories would you eat in a day?

My friend thinks 1200 is too little but I’m on a diet

I've done 1000kcal days while cutting.
1200 is plenty for a woman, for as long as those calories come from high quality nutrients.
You mainly want to eat protein and some healthy fats while on a diet, while avoiding all the carbs you can.

Lean meat, avocados, nuts and seeds and leafy vegetables are the ideal diet when you are restricting your calories.
Enough protein is important because your body cannot create it from fat, and if you lack it in your diet your body will start breaking down your muscle instead.

It depends on your height, weight, BMR, BMI and your goal. 1200 was not enough for me bc I work out a lot and I want to no longer be skinny fat (I weighed 97 lbs at the time, now I’m at 101 lbs)

1200 is perfectly fine provided you make sure those calories consist of quality nutrients.
