Another dentist says that brushing too frequently can CAUSE gingivitis.
Which one do you think is correct?

It's a tie for best answer. Anything you'd like to add?
I'd say brushing twice a day, and flossing is just fine. Maybe swish your mouth after having sticky candy or pop. Overall, it also helps to drink lots of water, have an active exercise regime, and eat healthily. All of those factors will help prevent gingivitis. Changing your toothbrush every 2-3 months is also a good idea.
you need to brush 2x a day, and usually after eating, floss also 2 x a day and also use some good mouth wash. And make sure your toothpaste is good and your toothbrush needs to be changed every 3 months or so.
Hey, so I'm on the right track! Thanks!
Dentist 2 is actually more correct.

Flossing is fine, ya, but brushing isn't.
Oh, and I know that they say brushing twice a day is still good, but not right after meals and not actually on teeth so much as on the gums. SOooo ya...
Why not right after meals?
Because after meals the acid from food will weaken your natural barriers on your teeth and then brushing can actually get things inside that will cause problems.
Oh! Something the pricey dentist never told me! lol
Thanks!

Ya, hope this all helps :) in the end what keeps our teeth really great is more our water than anything. I mean, our water in this country has fluoride in it naturally. In other countries? Not so much. That's why troops will come back with more teeth problems then they left.
I chose "A" I brush about 6 times or more a day with an electric toothbrush. I Have never been told that I'm doing damage to my teeth.
You have time to brush 6 times a day? Woah! I thought I was good brushing twice a day and flossing @ lunch, lol!
Yeah, I chew tobacco (don't gross me) so I don't want brow teeth & I whiten them twice a week
I wasn't going to say "gross" but I have a technical question, then. Doesn't the contribute to the deterioration of the gum line? (Sorry, but I've never tried the stuff, but it looks all rough and gnarly, lol!)
I use chew. It's in a bigger pack & it's got tobacco leaves. The stuff your talking about is snuff that comes in a tin. You pack that in your mouth between your cheek & gum & leave it there.
Chew is more like gum. It's bad for you but not as bad because it moves around in your mouth, like gum would.
I have the dentist thoroughly check my gums & tongue every 6 months.
He always tells me as your friend & dentist stop chewing that crap.
(Perhaps listen to him. You sound like a good person!)

don't go to extremes here. don't brush your teeth 50 times a day, ie dentist number 2. Dentist number one just meant brushing in between meals
