Getting a bad smell before and during period?

So recently for the past few menstruation cycles, I have noticed my down there getting a bit of a different smell about a week before my period, and then during my period. I know it's normal to get some sort of odor, but it is different to what it usually is. I wash all the tine, and even after every time I pee, I use water to wash it, but the smell doesn't seem to go. Unlike people that report smelling more fishy, mine is completely different. It is extremely hard to explain. But it just doesn't smell right? And everytime I start my period, the blood comes out really dark and brown, so I am guessing it is old blood? It is not a rotting smell, and it is not musky either. However it doesn't smell like sweat. I want to say metallic, but it is not that either. When I am off my cycle or not within the one week before it is due, I don't get the smell. I am extremely self conscious about it. I will be going to see my boyfriend in a few months, and he has a vey high sexual drive. Period sex doesn't scare him either. But this smell just doesn't smell pleasant either. But it doesn't smell like the explanations for any type of bv. Can you please help? Is this normal? Why is it happening? What can I use to help?

I wash with water all the time. I also wash with the soap in between the lips. But I am always cleaning it with water, even after just going for a pee. So I'm not sure what to do

Yeah well I have definitely tried masturbating as my boyfriend and I do video call "fun". The smell sort of remains the same, but then it has a mixture of my usual "sex" scent, if that makes sense! It's like a week before my period, I can smell my period. And even the texture of my blood for the first few days of my period is not the same. It's lighter and a lot darker. When the blood changes to my natural usual period self, it still has a strong smell, but one that I'm more hard to

Yeah potentially. But I hate it. If I can smell it, and if it doesn't smell like it usually does, then it worries me. I do not like the smell of it. I'm not saying it's putrid or something as I have had infections and bv before, and those smelt bad. But this has a smell that isn't pleasant, but not the worst. And I don't want to be like this with my boyfriend

Try douche inside of just washing douche goes in u an cleans

Yeah maybe I'll try that. But I know doctor's say to be very careful with doing that, even if it's just water. They say you shouldn't even clean the inside with water as it is "self cleaning", but I still use water inside a bit. But especially the vulva area and in between the lips, I even use a soap that is specifically for cleaning there. But nothing seems to help.
