I can function well enough without sleep. I need 9 hours of sleep, and work prohibits me from getting that full amount. I feel as though I don't have enough time at the end of the work day, so I push myself to stay up as late as I can in order to have time for myself, even though it means I get less sleep and I'm tired in the morning.
10 hours is ideal for me; any more and I have a headache all day. I can function on 5 hours but I’m grumpy and demand all the coffee. The middle ground would be 7-8 hours, I can function and I’m not borderline homicidal.

It's been proven humans can function normally on 4hrs sleep compared to years ago when they thought it was 8. And that number has been getting shorter ever since we looked into it.
In fact in rats it's proven they don't need sleep at all but for some reason which we have yet to find a reason to why will die after a month of been kept awake even if they are acting perfectly healthy.
Sleep is weird that way. Pretty much no evidence proves that we have to sleep to function but we know if we don't sleep at all we will eventually die even if at peak health.
And tbf to the other side of the story it is proven that sleeping does have health benefits which you will get less of if you sleep much less.
I get only about 4 hours of sleep a night too. I find I catch sicknesses (colds, viruses, whatever) much faster than other’s that sleep longer. My lack of focus diminishes if I get less than 4 hours a night.
REM sleep selectively prunes and maintains new synapses in development and learning so without sleep our internal “computer systems” would fail.
Also, I’m pretty sure insomnia partially fueled Van Gogh’s delirium.
I know sleep is super important but I just can’t seem to sleep more than a few hours a night.
Oh for sure, if one stays up for long progressive periods it will have a major impact on one's mental health. No denying that.
And yep REM sleep is pretty beneficial, but yet will still cannot prove if that is actually what does cause the rats experimented on to die granted of course losing tons of cells due to not getting REM sleep seems like the obvious cause and I would also bet on it.
Hmm I have lack of knowledge to how it effects one's immune systems but tbh that could be related back to REM sleep aswell.
My system is because I hardly sleep through the week due to it always reaching 6am then I need to be up at 10 or something I am always more tired on a Friday then just have kinda a long sleep for myself.
Plus I have a habit of sleeping during the day i find it easier for some reason. Plenty of times i've been to sleep around 9am-10am woke up at 5pm on week ends. Giving me a good amount of sleep. I don't know if this is really the best but it does indeed work for me.
Also I drink a lot of energy drinks and caffeine but my sleep has always been off. And personally they do help me I think rather than keep me awake. Along with caffeine been linked to improving changes against Dementia and honestly Dementia is the only thing in life I don't want to live with. Give me another illness instead that's fine but not this.
I'm a former insomniac... so I used to sleep not that much or not at all during my early years
but I'm a grown-up now and got things to do many, so I surely need that sleep to recover lol...
but for me, only six hours of rest are more than enough and that is also my usual, having a good six hours of rest do make me feel much better than sleeping 8 to 9 hours, not sure why it does happen like that but I do not question it... as long as I get my six I can just go all day without any issue whatsoever
and my cold showers in the mornings, of course... lol
5 is the bare minimum. I used to be able to go for two nights with only 3 or 4 hours. And a few times in the Navy I had to do several nights with only naps here and there, never for more than an hour.
To feel rejuvenated? 8 will get me there and 7 will usually do it.
I get there probably 4 nights a week. What usually stops me is one of the kids staying up late, work, reading, GaG, my wife comes home late, etc.
Life stops me from sleeping sometimes too! Many times it’s just my inability to shut off.
Wow…days without sleeping. The days must have blurred together. I haven’t gone days without sleep since I was a double major in college. It was rough but I didn’t have to do all you must have had to in the Navy.
Lol a lot of you obviously never had kids. As a single guy I could pull all nighters no problem. Throw in two kids and my old fart ass is snoring by 9pm.
When my kids were babies it was normal to have 4 hrs total sleep in a night. Thats total as in interrupted sleep every hour or so.
I function best on 7 total and two cups of coffee.
My sleep schedule was more inconsistent before I had children. I’d stay up all night some nights, go on just a few hours of sleep most nights. But then I’d sleep for 18-20 hours once of two weeks.
Once I had kids there were MANY very near sleepless nights, especially when breastfeeding. I find now that I have two children I wish for more sleep but only get about 4 hours a night. When I get them in bed I end up completing some to do’s and reading for hours. Sometimes I take a 2 hr bubble bath with a glass of wine, my Bluetooth speaker and a book! I need that unwind time more than sleep most nights.
I’m still searching for a perfect balance!
Breastfeeding was too hard on my wife. And it sucked that i had no ability to help. We quickly switched to formula and I fed our kids. For a dad with full time job, that was hard. Somedays i went to work with 1 to 2 hrs total sleep. So if you're breastfeeding, i hear ya
I need about 8 hours but ideally it would be about 9 hours. I can get by with 6 or 7 on the short term. If I drink alcohol in the evening I don't feel as rested when I get up and I feel like I need more sleep if I drink. One reason not to drink every evening... LOL
I almost always sleep 5 or 6 hours, nothing more. I inherited this curse from my father, who always went to bed at 1130pm and woke up st 5am. I often take short naps during the day, especially on weekends and non-work days.
I'm a bit of a 9 owl, sometimes I do t go to sleep till 3 in the morning, but I don't have to get up till 1 for work. So I still get about or 9.. maybe more on my days off when I want to chill around the house.
Only a few hours usually but sometimes I crash and sleep for a long time. Wbu?
When I haven't worked out or done much that day, I usually only need about 7. When I've worked out and been more active, I usually need about 9. When I'm sick, more like 10-12.
Probably 10 but I usually only get 6 or 7 during the week
Lol, only happens on the weekends
6-8 hours is ideal. Anything less makes me fatigued for the whole day, and anything more leaves me sluggish.
I topically bounce between 6-7 hours then randomly like the other night I might get an AWEFUL 3 hours and I hate that! Lmao!
I only need about 5-9 hours each night. It depends on the quality of my bed time, not necessarily the quantity.
I can get by on five hours a night as long as one day a week I can sleep for like 10 hours.
I only do that if I haven’t slept enough for several days in a row, but it’s something I’ve always been able to do. When i get into bed to sleep I’m out within a few minutes and almost nothing will wake me up lol. I don’t like to sleep that long though because I feel like I am wasting the day.
What I hate is when I want to sleep a little longer but I have to pee so bad my bladder feels like it will burst lol. Then I pee for what seems like five minutes and wonder how my bladder can hold that much liquid
My sleep is all over, I generally get Bout 6 hours of sleep, sometimes less, occasionally ill sleep in.
It's weird because sometimes I'll ger 4 hours of sleep and have a ton of energy and sometimes I'll sleep for 10 hours and be tired all day
4 hrs minimum for no more than 2 or 3 days, at least 6 on a constant basis.
I am able to get in some safety naps, so that helps.
I usually like 6 as a minimum to function, but strive for 8. Most nights I achieve 7-8 but occasionally it's 9.
About 4 hours a night. No, i never reach my sleep goals. I'm tired most of the time
The least amount of sleep I've had was 3 hours. The most I've had is 6 and a half hours sleep. I have a hard time functioning if I don't get 6 hours of sleep
I usually get between 4 and 6 hours sleep. I occasionally get 8 hours on a single weekend day, but it is a random occurrence.
I need 8 hours or else I feel tired and get brain fog next day
About five. I've apparently been like this since I was a small child.
I wake up after 7 hours of sleep without any alarm. I don't how that happens but I'm happy with it.
For me personally around 6 to 8 hours sleep I prefer more I do like my sleep.
In an ideal world I would love 10 hours of sleep however due to my busy schedule, my meds and my insomnia I am lucky if I get about 6 hours of sleep
sadly i need about 12 hours. (obviously i don't get that, sometimes on the weekend). i've always been tired like this, ever since i was a baby all i wanted to do was sleep.
I can't funtion without at least 7-8 hours. My work is complex academic stuffs , maths , physics. Without sleep I feel like a zoombie and can't solve or understand complex problems.
6 Jr's. And I'm good. It's less the time and more the quality.
To function well, at least 8 hours, less than that and my eyes give me issues.
I average 4 hours a night.
30 minutes at the most
I haven’t slept at all since my mother died nightmares every night for 5 years
Alcohol is the only thing that puts me under
What’s strange is that I felt no emotional connection to that bitch or anyone else for that matter yet I’m losing sleep
It’s actually highly infuriating I value you sleep much more than that waste of functioning organs who birth me
I’m SO sorry to hear your mom passed away. I understand all too well how hard nightmares can be. I just discovered I have nightmares so badly each night that I stop breathing to wake myself up. I remember some nightmares but didn’t know I was having them that intense or nightly. So I only sleep a few hours every night. 4 max usually.
4 is plenty and don’t pity that worthless cunt I’d kill her myself if she were still alive
It was sickening to think I breathe the same air as her
I need 8 to 9 hours. Sleep is love, be it with a girl beside or alone.
12 hours or I’m a beast to live with. 😁
I'm a 7 hours a night sleep type guy.
2-10. ik, a large difference
9 hours. Do I get it? No!! 😔
I go for eight hours a day.
Probably at least 6 hours.
I hardly sleep anymore
6 minimum, 8 ideally.
That depends on if I have drugs or not
