Do you still wear a mask 😷 even now?

In 2011, my mother was diagnosed with the cancer that would eventually kill her. I wound up spending much of the next few years living with my parents, and watching her slowly- very slowly- weaken and sicken and fade away. That's not a fate I'd wish on anyone- but it's one that's already been forced on millions of people who either have loved ones unable to get to cancer screenings or were unable to themselves.
My best friend has Asperger's syndrome, and grew up in an era that barely recognized it; he managed to muddle his way through, and used the incredible power of his brain to parse through ALL of the sense data he can't filter out; not only can he maintain a normal conversational pace with people, but people swear he's a mind-reader, because his pattern recognition is so good he can watch you take four steps and tell which hand you comb your hair with, and other feats that would make even Sherlock Holmes say "How do you know that?". But when your mouth is covered, he can't read your lips. Overnight, he went from superpowered to a social cripple, since his brain, unable to parse through what it was seeing, simply kicked into a higher gear. Then a higher one. Then a higher one. And so on, until it's trying to scream out from a dead stop at 200 MPH, and he either has to run or punch you in the face, because all he hears is garbled nonsense, and has no idea whether you're saying "Reach for the sky!" or "Nice day today, huh?". I taught him the ASL (sign language) for "I can't read your lips if your mouth is covered"; this is probably the only reason he's still out of jail.
So no, I'm not- I wasn't even back then, and given that it's been shown that 1. they don't stop the spread of Covid, and 2. they do (in some cases) stop the spread of other diseases, the lack of exposure to which is why there's now an RSV epidemic rampaging through the country, I've been pretty well vindicated in that decision.
Humans are not so powerful that we can overwrite the basic laws of biology, even though we really really want to. Our failure to understand that is hurting innocent people. It needs to stop.
I'm sorry to hear brother
“ they don't stop the spread of Covid”
Proper N95’s do stop the spread of disease. Nobody ever should have said material ones would.
Of course! Covid is still with us, and with newer and more dangerous strains. Plus, it helps against other airborne diseases. My daughter had cancer and brain surgery years ago and her health has gone way down. And I have a gal friend going through chemo for cancer now. Hospitals, doctors' offices, pharmacies, etc. all require them because of the susceptibility of people concentrated in those places, but people at risk are everywhere as they still need to do many of life's normal things, like shopping for groceries. Until we can basically eradicate Covid it continues to be dangerous and people should avoid spreading it.
If you wear a mask and are vaccinated, you are protected are protected against Covid so why does everyone else need one? Unless it is all bullshit?
@Daniela1982 First, a mask offers protection, but sometimes things can get around the edges, which is why in the worst cases protection is worn that is more than masks and sometimes look like space suits. But for most cases masks have been shown to be pretty effective. And sometimes diseases can infect someone who is vaccinated, plus as long as there are people who do not get vaccinated the diseases are still around us and they can can be passed around. And many diseases change enough that the old vaccines do not work against them. TB is one that is still around because of its mutations. The plague, scarlet fever, measles, mumps, and many others still pop up and kill people, even though they have been vaccinated. The "bullshit' is people spreading that methods that have been shown to offer some protection, such as masks, are not needed.
Yes I do in most places that I get to be around pepole, I yet to get sick, so I got a higher chance, and if it happens to me I will like to avoid spreading it as much as I can
It really dose not bother me almost at all, and if it gives me even a small chance to save someone else from getting sick that is worth it
I know the chance of me getting it is really high, as so many just assume its over here, or say they prefer to just get it, and be over with it, il say at times I am one of the only once wearing it on busses and the like, had some pepole come over to me and lie, or tell me to take it off, like it harm it in some way, but for now sticking to it
Also got all the shots so far with no real effect on me, one of the only not got it yet in my family and around my friends
Hoping to stick to it till it be over
Also just saying the more that get sick in the end the more chance the virous will evolve, to good or to worst
😷
No.
Covid clearly is like the new (or additional) influenza virus. It’s not going anywhere and I feel like wearing masks or mandating them longterm will do more harm than good. As evidenced by the respiratory illnesses in record numbers showing up in schools/workplaces after masks were worn for just the better part of two years.
Also, it’s not like Covid is a death sentence that the media seemed to portray it as initially. No worse than strep and tbh, that’s how you make your body stronger and more resilient. You expose it to antibodies and let it’s own immune system so it’s thing.
I had strep twice as a child and it was like a really bad cold. Like with many diseases, it’s luck of the draw in large part.
If you’re immunocompromised, then of course masks make sense. Then again, most effective when majority of those around you also mask up.
The fact that you work in an ER is a huge confounding variable. They’re in an ER so obviously their condition is grave. The fact that they have Covid is an aside..

Only if a "requirement". Masks give a false sense of security now that we know some of the antics of the virus.
Usually, not cause I feel it makes me safer, but it helps to make it so less guys approach me and talk to me... plus I still recall those businesses that said no mask no service, so I intentionally wear it at those places and will forever and ever.
If they come back one day and say no masks allowed, I'll tell them to screw off and make up their mind, because they required it before they can't keep changing their policies all the time, because before long they'll say masks required again. There is no way I can know that what they want until I show up and then it is too late.
At least the No shoes, no shirt, no service stuff stays the same.
I do wonder though if any businesses will ever get to the no masks allowed.
Yes, I do. Even at college, I'm one of the very few people who still wear mask. My mum is still undergoing chemotherapy, so I do not want to put her at risk. Her immunity is low, so she could develop complications if she is exposed to infections. I also contract infections easily, and it does not go away for 2-3 weeks, and I feel like shit the whole time, so I'd much rather wear mask for a few hours than suffer myself or endanger my mother. I change my mask every 3 hours, so it's fine.
Yeah I agree you have a good reason to wear one. I situations like yours for sure.
COVID is still prevalent where I live, so even if my mum did not have cancer, I'd still wear one.
Do you wear one while in your house or driving a car or outdoors while hiking?
@Daniela1982 I don’t have a drivers license yet, but I wear one whenever I go out. I do not wear a mask when I’m alone or with my family.
Does me wearing a mask offend you? 😊
You can do what you want, but unless if is a full face mask it does not stop you from catching a virus. They would have to fit super tight. The CDC just wants you to think it would help. But it doesn't hurt either.
@Daniela1982 I wear a N95, it’s fine, I don’t really care. Even though it doesn’t stop me from contracting the virus, it helps a bit and doesn’t expose me to other infections as much.
They must not work, if you can sneeze with a mask on. Hmm, you wouldn't have sneezed had nothing got in your nose. The mask is supposed to prevent things from entering. I find it funny. I went to a store and this woman had one of those really good masks and she tried so hard not to sneeze and had like five sneezes back to back with the mask on! what is silly is all of a sudden all that hype with no end in sight about covid, and overnight suddenly you heard nothing and everybody hellbent on going back to normal. Yeah the same normal everyone complains about going to work in person being gone all day coming home at night etc. Work from home and few and far people on the roads was a dream.
That’s a huge NO! I have never worn a mask since Covid. Not once. I told stores they can lose my business or let me on but no way in hell will I ever wear a mask. Masks DO NOT stop or even reduce risk of catching a virus. I refuse to live or play into a lie just so someone else can have a false sense of security. I’ve never had a vaccine either. I trust my own body over a man made thing that is causing people to kill over dead by the thousands!
I agree fully, there is no virus and the injection is a bio-weapon people are just to stupid to see that, people are dropping dead in droves I know a lot of people who are now really Ill or dead due to it, and masks don’t work anyway so you just look stupid walking around in them.
@TheVigilantOne Amen brother. Thank you for thinking instead of letting government think for you like so many do nowadays. The truth sets you free and you can never go back once you know the truth
I knew from the start it was all a con, “we’ve got a vaccine” “wow that was fast” no real vaccine gets made that fast, this has been in the planning for some years I’d say either that or they’ve made this poke in a bath with ingredients under their mums sink, it’s all a con the whole lot of it, and people can’t even see it and people are dying left right and centre and they still can’t see it. Good grief.
@TheVigilantOne Exactly. I think it’s also a test for something bigger. See how many people will buy up a lie so they know to eliminate the easy ones, aka low hanging fruit first. If you or I said aliens are invading, people laugh. If the government says it, no matter how out there, people will buy it hook, line, and sinker. And the same people who believe it show up at our door with pitchforks and torches if we refuse to buy it.
I still wear a mask because where I live it's back to being mandatory. However, I wish I wouldn't have gotten the COVID vaccine.. unfortunately, for me it was get vaccinated or don't work. I love my job, so I had to take the jab.
The darn thing has affected my health in so many ways. Lol but that's my fault for getting it.
Before the option was vaccine or mask, then they made it mandatory for the vaccine. We no longer had the choice.
Thank you! I hope so too! If you haven't gotten the vaccine, please don't get it. I've heard that they don't want to release the long term side effects of this vaccine. They're trying to push it back to not having to release them for 50 years. (The long term effects) That alone terrifies me.
Nah, barely anyone wears masks here anymore. Maybe you can come across one at a hospital... maybe. Or there's that security guard at my bank that still wears it - but it's funny - otherwise, the last time I saw more than one person within a day wearing one was months ago.
No. I never did. There is so scientific basis for wearing them. Every randomized controlled study ever done shows they have no effect in preventing spread of respiratory virus. Healthcare bureaucrats reversed their stance on masks and ignored the science so they could create the appearance that they were "doing sonething." Instead, masks created terrible division, enabled authoritarianism, and stunted the growth of children worldwide. Now a significant portion of the world population is permanently brainwashed into this healthcare theater.
No, I hated the mask, and anytime I could get away with not wearing any I would.. Now they don't require it anywhere I live, which is surprising since Chicago is a very liberal city.. They stop very little of any viral particles since they are so small.. Many people use the same mask at least a couple of times which defeats the purpose..
I would really like to. Masks provided a sense of comfort. What my face expressions are, people did not see them. That was a plus point.
And girls, looked really beautiful with just their eyes visible.
I would wear mask anytime.
I do... but specifically indoors with air condition and close range to people.
Outdoors has nice air circulation.
Mask purpose is to reduce viral load , not completely eliminate it. Some spit boulders are trapped by the mask IF the mask is a good mask. Some idiots don't understand this.
I also enjoy having my identity hidden from people who dojt know me. Lol peopel who know me can identify me.
I’ve always worn them for dust/exhaust while riding my bikes. Just stuck to it in stores as haven’t caught a cold/flu for three years since the mandates. Probably 20% of my area still does. More so this month. Lots of people in the medical field shop after work, mostly them. And elderly.
No! They were stupid then and are stupid now!
Wait what!!! Why don't you tell the families who have lost their loved ones because of this.
@roy_ricky09 Yes, but you're implying the causation was from not wearing a face mask. As tragic as those deaths are they're not associated with people wearing facemasks, which we know are fairly useless. People may wish to wear them for psychological comfort, but they should not impose this on another or get hysterical when they don't.
Let me share something with you that actually happened. There were people who were already infected but had no symptoms at all and weren't wearing mask, turns out rest of the family fell sick who didn't even go out at all in a month or so.
No one is forcing anyone, it's just if that help you save even a single life, we should. Because till now no has the complete understanding of the virus.
@roy_ricky09 The masks don't stop you from spreading the virus though?
1.6 billion disposable masks were thrown in the ocean in 2020. They take 450 years to degrade.
@AmyHew1tt It limits the chances of transmission
@roy_ricky09 Too many people think wearing a thin tissue paper mask somehow makes them invincible. I had coworkers still get it and we wear masks everyday. It's like when people got the vaccine, they got a over hidden sense of immortality until they realized they could still get sick and carry the virus.
@TaureanBull81 only KN95 masks, and a very small portion of people wearing masks have those
@JessicaEarl as they're rather expensive unfortunately 😕
@TaureanBull81 not where I live. CVS gives them for free. But the fact stands. Paper masks DO NOT…I’ll say it again only to repeat the findings of the CDC…. DO NOT limit the spread of Covid 19. If you’re not using a KN 95, you are wasting your time and only grandstanding more morality, not stopping the spread
@JessicaEarl I live outside the USA 🇺🇸
@TaureanBull81 well you better find one, because at this point people with paper masks are just embarrassing themselves
Let's see. Did I wear a mask for the last 50 something years of my life while during the majority of it there were those here that came here with things like non treatable diseases such as resistant TB etc etc? No I didn't and I'm not wearing one over a made up factious disease either ain't happening.
My dad had cancer this year and I was so grateful that the few times he was in public, a good majority of people were wearing masks and we were able to wear them around him to keep him safe. I also live with chronic illness as well, so this has been a bit of a blessing in disguise to still go places where a lot still wear the mask. There really are other reasons to keep wearing other than 'just' Covid.
nope. i stopped that as soon as my state lifted the mandate. i don't see why or what the point is of other people still wearing masks but i don't say anything. wonder if my partner will forever wear a mask... there is no point. at least not anymore. and he gets sick more than me. i don't get it.
I didn't wear a mask in the first place. Never bought one. Never made one. Still haven't gotten sick and I never took the vaccine.
No matter what anyone wants or says. You'll never get that vaccine in my body or make me wear a mask.
I also want to point out that I'm kinda drunk at the moment
Yes they are still required in medical settings and since I see my Dr frequently and go to the pharmacy at least twice a week at the moment for my shots I wear them very often
I still do since I commute a lot. I'm a little sensitive to air pollution and dust particles, if I inhale a lot for a long period of time I get cough/cold pretty easily.. especially in my country.
When it was required I bought the thinnest mask that literally did nothing and it stopped nothing because nothing happened.
I only had to wear a mask in public for a number of weeks earlier this year, that was it, and I hated it, at times I felt like I was going to suffocate and die.
(Warning: If you're triggered easily stop reading now!)
And for anyone still participating in the global theatrical production of wearing a mask and believing the utter nonsense our governments force fed us, no, your mask absolutely does not filter out airborne viruses such as C0V1D.
I have never worn one except for when I went to the hospital and wasn't allowed in without one. They have been proven to not work and can damage your lungs. 😊
Definitely. I’m immuno compromised, and I have no desire to pass anything on to my loved ones. Plus wearing a mask helps me with my social anxiety. I’m less recognisable and don’t have people stopping me to say hi when I’m out & about.
Yes, anywhere indoors such as stores. I’m fully vaxed but I can still spread it to others who are not, should I get the illness. The rest of people, most of them, do not, and that gives me more incentive to wear one.
I have when visiting elderly family, when going to health care facilities, or where the sign on the door still says to wear a mask. For the most part outside of healthcare facilities you don't see many masks anymore around here.
I do... I work in a hospital and always wear one... also in stores... I can't afford to get sick and I have seen too many people die from COVID or the Flu...
No, i can’t concentrate on anything wearing a mask except that something is on my face lol. When they were a rule it would take my hours to do normal grocery shopping. 🙄
Yes, I kinda have to tbh. I go to different teaching hospitals for my classes and they are very strict over their mask mandate, but I'm not complaining.
Not unless I have to like at a doctors office
No, I don't even have one anymore, but I still try to social distance from people in stores and wash my hands before eating because I think that's a good idea whether there's covid or not.
No and won't date anyone wearing a diaper on their face
Diaper? I've worn panties, but never a diaper! 🙂🙃😏
I was up to a few months ago, but who knows, if I see more people wearing them again, so will I.
I do, when I work on wood... and with powertools
Never did because there's 40 years of scientific evidence that proves they don't work for respiratory viruses.
Yes, but only when I'm at work since they still enforce it. Anywhere else not as much unlike 2 years ago
I barely wore one when they tried to make everyone wear them 😂 I definitely don't wear a mask now... haven't for an entire year.
Of course. Not because covid...
because people still knowingly smell like actual shit.
Never did. It's only helpful if you are sick, not to protect from becoming sick. And if I am sick I stay home.
I did the previous weekend at a table top convention, as they had the mask and vax requirement for admission, thousands of people in a huge place. But other than that, no.
I never did, unless they made me! Lord Fauci, himself, said they were pointless and, now that covid theatre is over and there's at least 4 or 4 cures, what's the point?
It you read the instruction outside the mask plastic bag or box it says it doesn’t provide oxygen
You are not a fish right
WdaF?
Masks prevent particles, not oxygen
Yes, you do.
Unnecessary, if you're wearing N95 or N99 masks.
Yes! DON'T DO IT!
Yes, of course.
Not that I’m aware of if I’m wearing a mask And I don’t even know it I will be sure to get psychiatric help.
If someone is hacking their guts out right beside me, and ESPECIALLY if they're not covering their mouth, then I will put the mask on.
Yes and people look at me crazy but idgaf. However, I’m not ever trying to get the shots
When I go shopping, out to eat, church, etc there's like 5-10 people wearing masks out of 100 or more who dont
I don't usually mask anymore here as it's safe from covid but i do wear it when i have to visit some crowded or high pollution area
I do yes because of the line of work I'm in plus where I live in the world 🌎, there's a 3rd COVID wave in my country with a new variant going around.
No of course not. The only place I wear it is in the hospital where I work. How about you? I don’t see why you’d want to cover up that pretty face.
Yes because I take the city bus to get home from college and you never know who could be sick
I got my second dose of the vaccine in March 2021. I waited ten days after that and I was all done with masks.
Sometimes but only in very crowded situations like public transport and if I´m required to.
No, never really did without threat of being fired by corrupt bosses.
haven't in a while, stopped when it wasn't mandatory anymore
Not lately, but I should be wearing it.
Nope. I hate them. I find it lowers your immune system and it’s ability to fight off the common cold.
no. I stopped wearing masks months ago. because it is no longer necessary. I only wear a mask when I go to the hospital. because the mask requirement in hospitals still continues
I’ll wear a mask whenever I’m feeling under the weather
No, never did as they’re no good for a so called virus.
Only if it is required. I was at the hospital last week & it is a requirement there.
Not usually, but there are definitely times when I like to play it safe.
