During covid times, we were told to wear face masks, it was mandatory in public places, and most of us begrudgingly did what we were told to do. Eventually, that ended, and most of us still have a few masks. . . in a drawer somewhere, just accumulating dust. But I still see some people in public, or driving their cars, and they are wearing a mask.
Are you one of those people? If you still wear a mask, can you explain why?
I never did, except at my dentist and eye doctor offices where I can't get treatment without complying with their rules. Even then, I don't fully comply. I don't wear it over my nose. In fact, I don't even cover my mouth unless they ask me to. As soon as they are gone, I pull it down again and make them repeatedly ask.
They hand me a mask when I enter and I throw it on the hallway floor outside in the hope that people will complain about the mess that the office is creating with their stupid mandate.
In the early days, the only mask I would wear was a bandana when entering stores but then pull if down once inside.

No. I will carry one in my pocket for certain situations, and I may decide to slip it on just to placate certain friends, etc. or when at the doc's. Otherwise, no- not even during my spring allergies (which I currently have).
My condolence on your allergies. We have had an awful pollen season here, I always react, then developed a sinus infection with bronchitis. Just now recovering from all of that.

@Friendlybro79 I would want to see large ppulation studies done over time, and particularly studies that controlled for independent variables. E. g., you might compare mask-wearing and results in the New York vs. Florida, where we wore fewer masks, but we were also outdoors more, have warmer temperatures, have a different age mix in our population, and many other variables that could also contribute to differences in addition to mask usage. After the several blanket statements made by Fauci which proved to be false, I will not trust upsupported claims from a public heath agency, because they are always politically driven.
"Blanket statements from the CDC" are based on collections of data, both from the US and from the world. A lot of deaths attributed to Covid were not proven to be caused or supplemented by Covid, many were. Fauci was chosen for his position because he is a world known expert in his field which is physician-scientist and immunologist. He presented information about the dangers of Covid and recommendations on avoiding it. The dangers were and are true as it has killed millions. Vaccinations have given protection to those getting them, but people can still carry the disease and pass it to others without getting it themselves. The dangers were proven to be true and his recommendations have helped many. Nothing he said was proven to be false.

I think we've all, including myself, have had a lot of conversations that turn into this over masks. If I could do them over I would have been less frustrated in my responses. So to that... @OlderAndWiser I like the idea of wider spread large population studies. To that, how large? I ask because we're not going to be able to have a billion people participate and have accurate findings and controls in place. Although that would be amazing, I can't think how we could do that properly. What number of participants would you consider large scale?
There are studies not done by the cdc, since you don't trust them, that have proved they work if you actually wear them and some masks better than others. This brings me to my next question. Who would have to hold the study for you to trust their outcome?

In my opinion, based on many studies I've read, I think masks work if we wear them. The better the mask the better they work. If we wear them on our chins or the same one for a year they don't work as well.
@Friendlybro79 I read part of this paper. This study combined other strategies wth mask wearing and so the results are not solely attributable to masks. The results were

That is a reduction of 1%, which obvously is far from impressive.
I wear a mask for the same reason why I put it on. I believe my doctors and medical professionals when they advise me too. My fiancé and I play it safe and take this seriously. There are certain events where her and I choose to not wear a mask too. We really act on what our hearts tell us to do. I honestly respect anyone who chooses to wear a mask and prefer to wear a mask around them to reduce the risk of spread to them as well. I don’t really know what their situation is like and I think it’s giving them respect when I do. I normally wear a mask when I travel in airports and airplanes the most.
I have a close friend who wears a mask, visor, and gloves. He’s married to someone with auto immune disease and he’s lost a couple family members due to the virus.

The entire narrative was clearly full of sh*t, especially after the first two weeks came and went and benefit of the doubt for better safe than sorry went out the window. Anyone who has ever worked in CBRN or similar knows damn well that those disposable mouth covers do exactly nothing, especially against particles even smaller than the flu. Everyone was going to get it sooner or later, no matter how many extreme measures they took. The people who STILL follow this crap are beyond the point of reason and should just be avoided like mad dogs.
I do not wear masks anymore, I am however still careful - keep my distance in public, test myself for COVID when I get symptoms.
My mother is respiratory weak and I work with children with various of medical conditions so when I'm at my current primary institution - I'll be wearing a mask around certain kids with any respiratory issues. It's not long ago, we lost a 16 year old charmer due to his body not being able to handle more and just last year we lost a 6 year old to the same issue.
Catching COVID myself was never a concern, but older people and people who are ill were always at risk of dying from COVID, colds, or anything else. I think it's irresponsible not to protect at-risk people from a disease that could kill them when simply putting a piece of cloth over your face could so easily help to mitigate it.
I just wish they pushed the C95s over the 3 ply. 3 ply was never going to make an impact.
I don't wear a face mask, i swear a gaiter. As they call it. So that white thing the news is recommending or whateva, nah. Why do I wear my little mask thing? Because people knowingly, and actually smell like cow poop. Or just super bad in general and still engage in the public.
As an autistic person, masks have been really nice for me. I didn't have to read people's full expressions and I didn't have to fake expressions so that people knew what I felt because it didn't matter. Wearing a mask was very comforting because I was able to relax my face and not freak anyone out.
I like how I look with it, eyes only I am told I look very sexy but I really don't wear them, except in a medical enviroment, hospital, doctors, office, etc... as they are still often required there.
I am not the type to protest it, I often see wearing a mask the same as wearing pants. If it makes others feel more comfortable and it really isn't bothering me, might as well but if I went somewhere in public without pants it could make others very uncomfortable.
I do. I am not worried about getting it as I have current vaccinations. But I have family members and close friends who have been compromised by cancer and its treatments, and I do what I can to protect them. Also, masks are required at doctor offices, hospitals, even pharmacies.

By the way, OSHA previously required six feet of separation of workers, and masks be worn when it was necessary to be closer. That has been replaced by the requirement that employers provide masks at no cost to those who desire to wear them.
I do not wear masks anymore. Some people still do, never judge someone for wearing one though. I know someone who wears a mask at school so they don't get sick and bring it home. His mom has cancer and she doesn't need to become sicker than she already is. Even though i'm against it I understand why some other people do it

I wear one on occasion mainly in highly congested areas or randomly because I literally don't want to bother with make-up and I have like a break-out or something. I checked our local Covid numbers and they have dramatically fallen, so I think it's fair to say at least for now, Covid in my area has fallen into that category of the flu where it's for sure still out there, but focus on washing your hands, don't hang around sick people, you'll probably be fine.
I think people really over react about the mask it was a requirement because there was a pandemic! I had no problem wearing one even tho I don’t care personally, it’s just a mask🙄. glad I don’t have to wear one anymore tho.

Why would I wear something that has been proven ineffective.. Worthless.. Anditerally does nothing.. I never wore one.. Not once.

I only wear it when I go to my GP to pick up my medication. Why? Because the surgery asked it, also, because of respect for the healthcare staff and to provide some sense of security for the old and ill folks who go there.

I work in medical. I am a specialist, I work in everything from doctors office to retirement homes to pharmacies. Most of the patients I work with are vulernable individuals. Seniors, immune compromised, drug abusers, alcoholics, diabetics, heart diease, kidney disease, parkingson's, etc. and young children.
A lot of people who don't wear masks - or get vaccinated - think because they are young and healthy they won't get sick. Go for you. Do such people want a dunce cap? Or a sticker saying I'm a selfish asshole that has never once thought of others?

@BlondeAndGreenEyed everyone is vaccinated like me and it’s not required even in hospitals anymore, I don’t have Covid and never did and have been checked several times this year because of procedures I was having done, always negative results so I’m safe and the masks don’t work anyway, it’s only good if you’re the affected person to keep from spreading, I’ve talked to many doctors about it, I also live with someone who is 77 years old and vaccinated
