How do people who are healthcare aids handle doing these jobs with dementia patients?

My grandmother screams and acts crazy when the aid gives her a shower. I don’t know how these people do this for the whole job. It’s hard enough listening to her for a day or two.

I think some clients get used to their caregiver and treat them better than outsiders. Also some are experienced at these situations and can deescalate a danger situation.

Someone told me about one of their patients. A blind man with dementia. He would wake up every morning and freak out because he forgot that he was blind.

I wouldn't t be able to handle it. Much respect for the people who can.

What was he blind from and legally or totally?

Yes, people with dementia can be a pill to deal with. I'm sure they do it because they care. They definitely are needed.

I looked after my mum as she went through this for 15 years. It destroyed my soul.

Wouldn’t she have been fairly young though ?

My mum was 44 when she had me.

It was actually an injury she sustained that had presented identically to dementia. She only needed care for her last five.

What kind of injury and they couldn’t do anything?

Oh that’s on the older side to have someone

She was smart as a whip up until that day and it was like a light switch was flipped.
