Does anyone take Prilosac (Omeprozol) with the blood thinner, Plavix? Did your doctor say it was okay?

My doctor has been prescribing Pepcid AC for GERD, because I'm on blood thinners. Apparently all other acid reducers interact with Plavix. Pepcid hasn't worked, so I started taking Omeprozol (on my own) and it's been very effective. I told my Dr and he didn't seem to have a huge problem but did say my blood thinners could be less effective. Other people have told me those studies are outdated and drs. Are starting to prescribe them together. Anyone familiar with this? Is anyone currently taking both together?

Your doctor who has examined you and knows your medical history said it was OK. Listen to your doctor. They know you are taking it. They can monitor if the thinners are still effective. They will be doing that anyway.

You're too young to have GERD. There seems to be a huge trend of this. I never heard about this with my parents generation. Now all of the sudden everyone is getting it. It makes me wonder what the hell is going on. It's easy to blame the modern diet, but I can't help but think that doesn't explain the explosion in GERD cases.

I just had an INR test today. It seems the effects from taking them together is "insignificant", in my docs words. I don't know why I have Gerd but it's been a problem since I was 24. The only thing I can think of, is that I drink too much coffee and eat too much and to fast. My Dr seems to think the addiction to energy drinks in the younger generation might be a cause.

Well coffee can make it worse. So can chocolate. So can a lot of other things. Alcohol is a big culprit. Eating too much too late is a culprit. Eating nuts late is bad. Dairy like cheese can be real bad. Obesity is bad. Energy drinks might contribute because of caffeine but I think Energy drink drinkers are a small percentage of people with GERD.

I have a problem with GERD. I know lots of other people with it. Everyone I've talked to thinks there is something missing. There are too many things that don't make sense.

Omeprazole stops Plavix from becoming its active form, therefore stopping it from working. Puts you at risk of getting clots without the Plavix working. It’s best not to take Plavix with either omeprazole or esomeprazole (Nexium).

My recommendation is that your blood thinner be changed to Eliquis because there are no contraindications for PPIs or acid reflux meds.
