These days there is a whole load of information about health online and sometimes it's far beyond what the reader has.

One of the main issues is on the mind, if you look up symptoms and it says cancer or heart disease or something bad etc etc, it effects your mind and makes you feel different to what you maybe did to match the other symptoms. There is a huge issue with how the mind can manipulate the body sometimes.

Also it makes things more complicated, the initial check of symptoms should give the doctor an idea of the tests needed, where as you mentioning all these conditions just makes it harder and more costly for both the doctor (dealing with emotions and worries) and you (making the doctor order more tests for your own satisfaction).

Lastly is the plethora of information. You can't trust 1 site from another over things and the amount of jargon is incredible. If 1 person says this makes you lose weight, doesn't mean it will. It's just dangerous for you because you aren't a medical expert and could misdiagnose your own symptoms and prevent you getting prompt treatment and care!

Your pharmacist on the high street can help if you are unsure!

They only don't like it if you get sucked into misinformation or simply start spouting off that you read such and such. It's better for you to use your research to bring a list of questions, along with notes you made about symptoms, ask if possible treatments will help and anything you've tried which has or has not helped.

Also, dress like you have your act together. Cleaned up, business casual attire. The more the doctor thinks you are intelligent and rational. The more weight they'll give to what you say.

If you go in looking like a mess and raving about stuff like the power of crystals. The more they'll think you are a fool.

Just don't make your lists too long. You need relevant bullet points and get to the point quick.

My guess is that it seems everytime you Google something, it's multiple things that could be wrong with you.

Or the most popular thing Google will tell you:

There's a lot of misinformation online... Google search can often give completely incorrect information.

When a person tries to diagnose their symptoms with an online search, they may end up totally incorrect, and then their doctor has to convince them that what they found is incorrect. In many cases, they don't have some incurable disease they found online, they have something that's easily treated.

It seems like they do not like that for the most part because it suggests that you don’t really need them as much or they might feel underappreciated or know they have to change your mind about what the real diagnosis is. It’s kind of a pain in the ass..

I've never had that. In fact my doctor likes it when I take an interest and asks question. I think what doctors don't like is when someone wants to pit there knowledge against his/her's just because you read something off of WebMD. I use to work with this one b**** that use to arrogantly say she'd tell her doctor what to prescribe her. And I was like, "I bet your doctor loves you". Here he went to med school for all these years when he could just ask you what needs to be prescribed.

    There are two issues.

    1) there is bad misinformation on line, and doctors don't want to have to contend with that.

    but also

    2) There is some very good information online - real medical research papers in peer reviewed journals etc. Some doctors are not happy to find out that their patients are not willing to simply do what they say.

tbh most doctors ask a few questions and go back to their computer and google as well because they have no fucking clue

I think it is because the internet has a lot of misinformation. Also the doctor can't feel like they are in control. It doesn't bother my doctor that I do.

Because more often than not when people do that they come in with the assumption they have something they don't and are ready to throw down and argue with the doctor about it
