What makes people seek medical advice from others on the Internet without having seen a doctor themselves?

Convenience vs. Connection.

Depends what we are talking about here. If I sprain my ankle ill tell people on the internet and get a lot of really quick solutions. Some are good some are crap but make me laugh. To get help from a doctor can be a little more complicated, take longer, and cost me dearly.

Now, if I break my ankle im not going to tell people on the internet for them to laugh at me all the way to the hospital...

Its convenience and connection for me. Also there is something connecting with people gives us a doctor can't. Once my ankle gets a cast on; ill tell everyone on the internet for them to laugh at me. That joy will help me heal as much as the cast... the same way, telling people when I sprain my ankles helps me relate to everyone that did it in the past and recovered so I know I can to.

Doctors are to fix the things we can't ourselves. Now days i think people make more problems worrying then they solve going doctors.

two main causes...

first one is fear... most people are wary of finding out how bad it really is or can be

and the second is financial fear (at least in the USA) because... even just one pill can be as much as 40 dollars, and up to 200 dollars or more just to be seen for consultation

and all of that for your insurance to tell you "you shouldn't have gotten sick if you wanted our insurance policy to cover your health care"

My guess is they are looking for quick affirmation that nothings wrong instead of facing professional medical advice and diagnosis.

Self diagnosis or relying on advice from people who aren’t trained can be risky, you might miss something serious or misinterpret normal symptoms. It can also cause unnecessary stress and overthinking, which doesn’t help recovery.

I agree completely. I think it is a fear driven response of real medical advice and tests. Instead they ask unqualified people in hopes they get a bunch of “I had the same thing and it was nothing” and “you’re fine” type of replies to ease their mind and validate not going to a doctor.

For like sometimes i see a woman who gets irregular periods, they asked in the internet who actually maybe she just lack of vitamins, Too tired, stressed and a lot of people say maybe it’s PCOS. etc
It would just give her anxiety, and overthinking more and makes her period even worse by listening them.

That’s a good example. Nothing good can come of asking a bunch of strangers their opinion on that cycle when you’re already anxious as it is.

Contrary to the popular belief, no American dies because they don't have access to medical care. They die because they are either too lazy or too stupid to get it! There isn't ONE American that can't be insured, either through their state or Federally.

Maybe they are afraid of doctors or don't trust them. Sadly, if they live in the US, it may be because they fear the expense of a medical appointment or treatment.
