Doesn’t PTSD affect your capacity to hold a job?

For some it triggers and for some it doesn’t. What’s your personal experience?

PTSD effects every area of your life, although it depends on the type of trauma that it’s a result of. I wouldn’t say that it effects your capacity to hold a job, but it can definitely effect you if you’re working in a job that has some relation to what traumatised you in the first place. For example, if you have PTSD from being mauled by a dog in the past, then working as a dog walker or veterinarian is obviously going to effect your work life & PTSD. Personally I’ve never had my PTSD effect my work life, as I’ve never put myself into situations or jobs that could trigger me.

PTSD has become the new ADHD. Everybody's got it because it's trendy. It's a shame for the real people that have it, but watch the media and you'd think anyone that's ever worn a uniform is a ticking timebomb of mental health. Fact is most people haven't done anything to warrant it. You went to the desert and played xbox in the toc for 6 months? Yeah, you're not traumatized from it. Next.

Ok, I work as a nurse at a VA hospital, so that's where I'm coming from. PTSDs effects vary widely from patient to patient. So the answer to your question is yes, no, sort of.
