My mom is 56 yr old but still gets her periods.

It varies from person to person.
On *average* it happens around the age of 45.
But it can happen as early as in your teens (Yes, I watched a documentary about this and there's a woman in the UK who entered hers at 17) or you might end it *really* late in life.

Also, for your average woman in her 40s or younger the hormone supplements have no increased risk of cancer, and might lower the risk of other issues.
It's women in their fifties etc that probably should avoid the treatment.
Also, the cancer risk for the treatment is really low, even for them, compared to other factors like age, food, smoking etc.

I started perimenopause at like 43. I was just started on HRT which is an estrogen patch and I feel great. I have so much more energy.
