The longest I’ve fasted was 101 hours. 🙂


Usually, I don’t go past 72 hours when it comes to prolonged fasts though.


That’s because I want to hold onto my muscle mass and it’s important to exercise at least twice a week to prevent atrophy.


And after exercise, a post workout meal is important to help with muscle recovery.


Usually I do 24 hour fasts and stick to a paleo or low carb or keto approach for lean bulking.


But if I want to have a bunch of carbs, I follow that up with a 48 or 72 depending on how many carbs and sweets I’ve had.


Then it’s back to keto. 🤙

Refeeding Syndrome is real though, so it’s important to make sure you’re consuming water and the right electrolytes during a prolonged fast. I personally use Cole Robinson’s recipe for electrolyte solution.

I drink mineral water no vitamins no salt and the longest I've fasted was 46 hours. Do you think its dangerous no salt?

It may be dangerous to go too long without the salts. If you look into refeeding syndrome, it’s the sudden inflow of electrolytes after being starved of them that can be dangerous. Having some potassium and sodium would be good to add in. Even if it’s just in the form of a zero-calorie sports drink or something. Those electrolytes are going to help your neurons fire properly and not go haywire during a longer fast.

I know that 24s without salt is completely fine. 48s without salts is proooobably fine, but it doesn’t hurt to be on the safer side. 3 days and beyond? Yeah, be sure to have your electrolytes balanced if you don’t want any complications.

I suppose once caveat is one may go longer than 3 days without the salt if they have a very slow and gradual re-introduction of food, starting with simple teas, soups, and vegetables to gradually replenish their electrolytes naturally.

But if you are regularly drinking an electrolyte solution that covers your sodium and potassium needs, you don’t have to worry about your body going into shock from the reintroduction of food.

I believe it was 2 days. But my preference is intermittent fasting. 16/8. But only when I'm not doing a lot of cardio.
