What is chronic pain like?

Depends on the level of pain and location/locations. I was in a car accident at 19 and had a botched surgery. Most of the time I don't notice the chronic pain. It registers but I have gotten used to it is what I mean by that. When I have bad days it depends on what part of my body is feeling worse. I am usually just more irritable. Bad days can limit my physical activity. I have a hard time sleeping because I can't stay in any one position for very long without it making a pain worse. Long car rides are uncomfortable as well.

I have Arthritis / Nerve damage in my legs and the pain can be rough at times. So yes, pain can be rough.

I've had such horrible pain that I would scream because I just couldn't take it. Some of my pain is deep boring pain in my gut that never stops.
I've had chronic pain for years. It hurts really bad with no relief. Sometimes you just want to end it all. Make it stop. But if you have kids, even grown kids, you stay because of them.

It takes your smile away and makes you look grouchy all the time when you're not grouchy really, you're in pain.

probably depends on the condition/pain in general. at this point i have chronic back pain so sitting/standing hurts and I tend to have to move from either stance a bit more gingerly and carefully than otherwise.

Depending on the location of the pain, it can be debilitating. It is never ending, no matter what you do
