I feel like I can walk pretty great distance. I had a couple months where I was on crutches this year, so I think that affects my average. But it's not uncommon for me to have 15 to 20,000 step days. A lot of those steps are spent between 6000 and 10,000 feet above sea level.
Great question Edward!
Sounds like you have a very enjoyable life Mr Climb!
I am a man of extremes lol
A lot of my job is spent walking and inspecting vegetation.. It's enjoyable most of the time. I'm impressed by your long hikes๐
A lot of my leisure time is spent walking and inspecting vegetation.
What awesome job do you have?
I hike for pleasure and sanity lol
Specifically, I'm an agronomist and provide guidance in regards to vegetation management on certain tracts of land in the climatic region that we live in the southwest. I recently picked up a new contract inspecting vegetation management performed by tree companies performing line clearance. That goes until the end of the year. Next spring will bring me back into the high elevation fields of ranchers.
My background profile picture is of a gnarly old pine trunk that shows it twists, which indicate how water and nutrients are translocated up a trunk. The structure of these channels are a good way to see behind the scenes of how our trees work and why they have dieback patterns that are often complicated.
What an awesome job!
Dream job right there
Iโve always wanted a tree farm like a buddy of mine.
Lots of knowledge necessary
The pay is decent, but not phenomenal. My spouse, she makes a lot more than I do. It keeps me active and I get to enjoy some wonderful scenery from time to time. It certainly helps my high altitude cycling efforts.
I'll change my background pic to one of the snowy scenes I encountered earlier in the week (after I give the trunk a couple of days)
I understand that. My favorite jobs donโt pay shit lol.
Nothing satisfies me more than remote forests and pure nature. Wildlife and pure clean energy.
But alas bills need to be paid. Until Iโm completely capable of living off the land.
I wish you the best of luck and encourage you to keep pushing for that. I'm gonna work on expanding our own little garden plot at home this fall and next spring. I don't know if I'll ever be able to raise animals, but we can certainly grow our own vegetables.
One of my good friends who also happens to be a plumber lives on five or 6 acres and has a wonderful garden plot and they have 12 or 13 chickens. So he's pretty well said if he really needed to be. I think he buys half a cow once a year as well.
I have a small farm on a couple acres with a hodgepodge of animals, trees, bushes and garden. The more you know, the better off you are.
Iโm always identifying wild plants for medicinal and food purposes while exploring on my hikes. Itโs a hobby of mine.
One of these days, maybe I can disconnect from the grid and disappear into the woods lol
I believe in being as self sufficient as possible
if I really really had to I could go 20 miles or so but I really don't want that, lmfao...
But the sense of accomplishment my man!
I rather sprinting around... till I score, lol
Thatโs one way to exercise!
I did 32 kilometres in Las Vegas but my average on days I leave the house is 6 kilometres. You are one brave person to hike that far. Congrats to you : )
32 km is a damn good hike!
I just had to see more trail lol ๐. Did a 4 mile trot today to losses up my legs from yesterday. 15 miles is my upper end for sure. It took 12 hours to do that distance on the Appalachian Trail.
Wow, keep at it! This is great and rewarding work. Good for the body and mind.
It is essential. My mind definitely needs it ๐.
Thanks ๐
If walking normally I should be able to walk at least 10 kilometers, if jogging maybe 1 or 2 kilometers
Thatโs good ๐

Damn, those feet look like they seen World Wars.. 😂😂.. JK..
But I used to walk about that much on an almost daily basis at the gig, but not so much anymore..
Even my nails were bruised lol
And no world wars yet lol, just regular ones
Must've hiked in Scandals..
Nope, hiking shoes. But a couple miles were through soft disced sand on a fire trail soโฆ. ๐ค
Iโve done some extreme hikes that left my socks bloody
Ooohweeee.. Geez, that's some dedication... Those trails must be crazy.
The trails and myself ๐
Hahahaha.. Yeah that's some David Goggins type of hiking..
Have to look him up
He's crazy, but motivational.. So you might like him..
If I can run 30 miles to train myself for a marathon, surely I can walk longer than that since walking is so much easier than running. If I hiked with a backpack loaded with food and water, I can probably walk an entire day.
Waking and running use different muscle sets. I used to run a lot but now Iโm older and my joints prefer the steady low impact of walking
That would be a dream! I wish to do the entire Appalachian Trail someday
Forever when I'm trying to hatch eggs on pokemon go
Lol ๐
Those 10 K eggs are totally worth it!
@MiddleAgedClimbee Unless it gives you a weedle. Instant rage. Lol
That would be a severe let down!
I used to run marathons. I imagine i could still walk that distance (26.2 miles)
I think I can walk forever
I used to feel that way lol
I should probably walk more lol
It is good for you
At my job I walk over 10,000 steps every night.
Most I've done was like 10 miles in 3 hrs
Thatโs a good clip! ๐
