Wow, that's the first time I found a term for what I experienced! I never knew there was a term for this.

There was one time very long ago when I had the worst broken heart after a devastating break-up. It was just one week before we were to be married.

It was the strangest feeling because the way I described it is that people seemed like robots, even my closest friends and family but also strangers walking down the street.

I've always been a bit hyper-sensitive about how other people seem to feel or "empath" as some describe it, but for the following year or so after that break up, I felt nothing. Really it's like people were machines, no souls; I didn't feel anything looking at them except like, "This person's mouth is moving and making sounds."

Also I described it as though the world lost its color, like I could see color but I couldn't feel color. It's like black and white. I always had a difficulty with the words but I actually described it that way multiple times before (including on here in an older account). I'm so amazed looking up "derealization" that it so accurately describes how I felt.

But yeah, that's exactly what happened to me after that break up. It lasted around a year after. It's the one and only time it ever happened to me.

I used to from a health condition, and also depersonalization, I would get them at the same time so it felt like I was walking through life watching a movie, but also that the person watching (me) wasn’t real and just an illusion, and that all the people around me were in the same situation, like we were all just elements of a consciousness that existed outside our physical reality, exploring our reality as different individuals interacting with each other, it was really fucking trippy! I’m glad it’s over

I've had it happen especially when I was younger from trauma that I suffered. Not a comfortable feeling at all.

I don't think so. I had depersonalization back in my 20s where the world still seems real but you don't.
