How do you overcome sadness when your routine is stressing you?

Basically I haven't written in a year and I wanted to ask how to overcome a situation where you need to continue studying in a course you don't like, but you already spent 2 and a half years on it nearly quitting at many times nevertheless. My point is if you don't have a backup plan how would you change your life to feel better and not feel this extreme sadness all the time?
