Dentist never bothered to look at my other teeth?

So I broke a tooth in half about a year ago and they gave me options of what could be done. I said just pull it out, since it's not in front. So now fast forward a year later, I decide to finally get this thing pulled. Should have just went straight to an oral surgeon the previous dentist referred me to. Anyways, this latest dentist did a whole exam and tells me I have like $8k worth of stuff wrong with my mouth. I need a root canal on another tooth, the tooth that is broken needs to be pulled now where the first dentist said a root canal could be done, but the second dentist said there isn't ebough for them to attach a crown to and just needs to be pulled. I don't get it. The first dentist took xrays. Why didn't they mention the other cavities? Could have saved myself a root canal. Now I'm just going to have both my upper premolars pulled I guess, and the other cavities filled. Something doesn't line up here. Opinions? Yes, I should have gotten the broken tooth fixed by now, but I didn't know that's the only thing they looked at. I assumed everything else was fine since they took xrays and didn't mention anything else. What a bunch of bs. Now I need to see a 3rd dentist to make sure that 2nd one isn't ripping me off.

If you go in for a specific problem then they only address that specific problem. If you wanted a general check up as well, then you should’ve booked that. Most dentists I've met don’t check the rest of your teeth if you come in for a specific problem, because it means more work for them, and more times than not, the patient doesn’t care about all the other work that needs doing and they just put it off until it’s a bigger problem anyway. So it’s a waste of the dentists time unless the patient has requested a general check up.

Then I wasted $300 on the second dentist because the lady on the phone said they did extractions, when that was a lie. I wouldn't have set up an appointment if they didn't.

So basically you're saying just to get a general exam done and let them discover the broken tooth when I get there? I'm not telling them what the other dentists have said.

$8k sounds a hell of a lot at your age, I'd be asking whats essential and what's cosmetic.
Broken teeth should be dealt with immediately not a year later or infection will take hold and spread to other teeth. Generally if the damage isn't beneath the gum line teeth can be saved.

I don't know, but I need to get these teeth resealed again. Made it 25 years without a cavity, not sure what the deal is now. Of course they blew that off when I mentioned it. What I mean by sealant is they fill in all the deep crevices where cavities like to form to begin with. Probably not a good money maker for dentists.

Dental care costs can vary by country. But so can quality and risk of disease. I won’t research it for you but Turky is cheaper but I don’t know about quality or risk. Check to see if a country has all three, cost, quality and low risk.

Nothings wrong with my oral hygiene. My teeth look fine to me. You know how many people I see with dark grey nubs of what used to be teeth?

It's widely publicized that your oral health is a sign of your overall health. You need to fix that shit

Dentists are exactly like that.

First if all, don't go to group dentists. Go find the best private dentist you can find. It's not as expensive as it sounds. It saves you money and your health in the long run.

A tooth broken beneath the gumline can still be saved with gum surgery and a crown.

There are these new CT scan or 3D xrays that show stuff a lot better than normal xrays.

Most places do digital xrays, so make sure you get a digital one. It shows cavities much better than the old film ones.

Ask lots of questions from the receptionist about the cost and the "if"s and "but"s before you make an appointment

Yes, receiving good dental care requires knowledge and experience. Keep yoyr eyes and ears open and learn as much as you can. Ask your reliable friends and family as much as you can.
