Should a marathon be wheelchair accessible?

As a spectator, of course you should have access to the line as a wheelchair person. There is no reason why it should not. I think that organizers should even have elevated platform for wheelchair spectators to view the even when seated in their wheelchairs.

As a participant, it would be more difficult as a number of marathon are not on even surfaces unless they create a wheelchairs only dedicated marathon that does not have any obstacles that wheelchair people cannot overcome.

However, a marathon is by definition a race on foot but marathon types of events should be available to those wishing to participate. I don't know if such a thing does not already exist.

I thought most of them were although they tend to do the entire course

I would say no, but I expect most are. I've never seen a marathon with stairs.

Where? In the US? Does the ADA apply? What would be required for a marathon to be accessible to participants in wheelchairs? Why is being in a wheelchair a barrier to viewing the race? I don't see why it would be... just designate some spots along the course for people unable to stand.
