Seems like the apple cider vinegar shampoo made it worse, so I stopped using that an I’m still itchy occasionally but not as bad

First, consider seeing a dermatologist.
However, you need a more serious dandruff shampoo...
You need one with coal tar. Once I started using that, my dandruff and itchy scalp problems went away.
Right now, this is what we use:

Look closely. You'll see Coal Tar 1.0%. That's the strongest you can get. You can also get 0.5% aka "Original Formula" or anything that doesn't have "extra strength" on it.

I am fine with the lesser, but my wife likes the 1.0% "Extra Strength", so I buy that.

Walmart and CVS and Target may have clones as well.

A major brand would be Neutragena T/Gel.

That said, consider checking with a dermatologist first. Coal tar shampoos can have issues for some people. I used to buy mine at Dollar General (their Rexall brand), but they stopped carrying it, so I had to switch to Walgreens.

These are not cheap; an 8-oz bottle is about $14.00. But, it gets the job done and I don't need much and only use it ever other day or so.

Try a different shampoo and soap. Something without a laundry list of chemicals in it. Then try using tallow on your scalp about a half hour to an hour before hopping in the shower. It is probably your body being unhappy with all the BS chemicals in your soaps and detergents.

I’ve been using dandruff shampoo and that never works. I gotta find a dermatologist

Like I said … avoid the chemical laden stuff. Just use natural soaps. Dandruff soaps a laced with chemicals.

I find I get itchy scalp when I eat too much processed sugar or sweetener in a short period of time. Cherries are fine, but the chemical sweeteners can make my scalp itch. Try avoiding that and see if you get better.

I ate all that when I was younger and didn’t have that problem , it just started happening the last couple of years or so and had gotten worse the last few months

Yes, it can be a spontaneous occurrence. Some times a vitamin B3 deficiency can also lead to itching, but severe itching is probably caused by the processed sugar and sweetener.

You can go to a dermatologist and they might be able to prescribe you medicated shampoo I've had to get it before for my dermatitis
